ok, call me a saddo Cry but i've never cooked a leg of lamb. I usually cut it up for kebabs, curries etc. Any nice ideas for it or am I best to keep it simple, bearing in mind the leftovers will probably go into a curry Wink Haven't done a search yet, but will, so apologies in advance Embarrassed

Ken hom did this on a programme before, can't remember which one. We also tried it one christmas. You need to loosen the skin from the duck, think this was done with straw or bicycle pump under the skin, no kidding Develish Once the skin was loose you basted it with soy sauce etc over a pan, then it had to hang up to dry. I think it was then roasted. It was lovely but seemed a hassle. Try a search for peking duck

slow cooker recipes

I bought a new oval slow coooker which is about 6 litres capacity, I think. One of those chrome Morpht Richards ones, because I wanted one that I could put a whole chicken into, for making stock and using the meat for other dishes etc. My instructions say that when you are cooking you need to have a certain amount of water in the crock. There is only 4 in my family but if I used the amounts they said, I would have enough to feed an army Cheeky So what I want to know is does it really make a difference?

Hi, I live in Ayrshire but was brought up in Glasgow, want to school at North Kelvinside (which I think has been pulled down now) and then moved to the South side so no bias Tongue When i go to Glasgow i like to go to La Tasca on renfield st, just up from Central station. Great tapas bar, brill atmos. You can order paellas after 6pm. Also tried Ding's Grand buffet which is in merchant city, if you fancy Chinese or Kublai Khan (mongolian) which is round the corner. Haven't tried it yet but they have a website. Haven't been to the west end in ages, but isn't there a restaurant called two fat ladies? that is supposed to be good and also a greek place on Gt Western road?

Hi JohnM1, contacted country book shop. The book is out of print so they wouldn't be able to get it. No waterstones shops have it and they told me that their website takes you straight to amazon, so it looks like trawling round the 2nd hand bookshops lol. I have a few curry club books, so I'll see if there is anything in them.

Scottish morning rolls

this conversation has my mouth watering.. i live in Scotland and I love the rolls from Morton's bakery. I thin Tescos sell them but don't think they are quite the same from going into a grocers. Roll spread with butter and a squred sliced sausage with fried onions and brown sauce, yum. Egg and potato scone together is good too.

Non stick coating on GF Grills

I bought a gf grill about 16 mths ago. I don't use it an awful lot and when I do use it I never use any metal utensils. When I clean it, I use a damp cloth or kitchen towel. The other night I used the damp cloth and the plastic scraper to clean it and a load of the non-stick coating started coming off. Has anyone else had ths problem?

Glass storage jars

I'm sure I've seen these in good old Tesco's in the home dept. I was looking for bottles, jars and stuff to keep my toiletries in instead of the plastic bottles they come in, and I remember seeing them. Hope it's what you're looking for. Won't break the bank either.

Paella

My favourite recipe comes from an old BBc Good Food magazine. Don't think I'd be able to post it.
Ingredients I use are olive oil, onions,garlic, skinned and chopped tomatoes, chicken, paprika, chilli flakes, risotto rice ( it makes it creamy, Though I'ts not meant to be, but I love it!) saffron, a few glugs of sherry, peas king prawns mussels anything else you fancy

dried or easy blend yeast?

Hi all you bakers out there

I use easy blend yeast in in my breadmaker (thats the only yeast the instructions say you can use) I want to try some of Paul Hollywood's recipes for bread. I haven't made bread by hand and was wondering which yeast you would recommend. I probably wouldn't use fresh, as I don't bake a lot. How do you substitute one for the other? The ingredients section of the site says baker's wouldn't use easy blend. Is it true?

SLOW COOKER CURRY

Ha! Ha! know what you mean about that kind of diet, I coulnd't stick to it for too long. Life's too short. There was actually a low fat recipe on the site a while ago, I think it was butter chicken. Never got round to doing it, need to get my act together. With 2 young kids, a job which involves working every 2nd Sat, by the time it gets to the weekend, Im shattered, as i'm sure a lot of mothers will agree. I will start trying to get some me time again

clay cooking pot

I've just seen the post on the tagine and It remined me of something I have lurking in the cupboard lol.
I'm not sure what it's called, but it's like a clay roaster with a lid. I think you are supposed to soak it first, then put your chicken or whatever in it, then cover and put it in the oven. I too have lost instructions but something tells me you start it in a cold oven, can anyone enlighten me?

do you find that when you cook anything in the slow cooker that you end up with loads of extra liquid? Even when I try not to use too much at the beginning it turns out like this. BTW I will get round to trying your recipe, just clearing out the spice cupboard lol. Do you have any nice spicy recipes, as we normally eat hot curries in our house or could I make your CTM hotter. Would that spoil it?

Curried naan bread

Instant yeast, is that the same as the easy blend yeast? I have also been told Paul, that you don,t like breadmakers. I tried to beke bread before, but I don,t think I kneaded it properly. Any tips - and do you need somewhere warm for it to prove?

thanks for your replies. I have bought turkey roasting bags, so they will be large. I have been told to put the duck on a rack in the bag, the make slits on the top. The skin should still crisp, fingers crossed!

has anyone tried capon?

I was thinking of trying a capon on Xmas day because I was told it was more juicy than turkey.
I also don't have many to feed. Has anyone tried it?
I also read somewhere that they were illegal to produce in this country, so does that mean if I got one from my butcher that it would be imported and/ or frozen? I would never buy meat now that was imported, and after that program on tv, I would never buy frozen poultry.

Thanks for replying debbie and mirandaP, yes my machine does have a dough setting and you add the water first and then all the dry ingredients, it's a kenwood BM200. Do you have to change the quantities of ingredients because it's being done in a machine? I usually just use the book with the breadmaker, I haven't got around to doing anything else.

george foreman grill

Hi

Thanks to everyone who has posted. I have since tried chicken breast on the grill and it was lovely. I marinaded it in yoghurt + spices and then cooked it. The coating went a wee bit yukky but not too bad, the chicken remained quite moist. I think you need to experiment with the timing so food doesn't dry out. As for cleaning, if you scrape the grill while it's still hot with the plastic spatula the gunk comes off quite easily. Then it's just a matter over wiping down with a hot soapy dishcloth when it's cooled

george foreman grill

Hi, I did preheat the grill and I used to brush the plates with oil. I spoke to the home economist at customer services for the people who make the grill and she told me only to oil the steaks. The grill is only oiled the first few times to get it seasond. She also told me that the grill you can buy in France gets hotter because of the way that they like their meat cooked -like me LOL. I tried it again last night and it was a bit better, I thin you need to leave the steaks thicker!. I'll keep trying but would appreciate any tips. Have you tried grilling anything coated in marinade, yoghurt etc, is it ok? Thanks again

george foreman grill

I'v bought one of these grills, tried it a few times and quite like it, but one of the things I was looking forward to was a good steak, dark on the outside, med rare inside. When I tried it, the staek was an unappetising pale colour and it was cooked through very quickly. Do you have to coat the steaks with anything??
I also brushed the grill with oil as you're supposed to.
