I think you can buy one at lakeland ltd. They have a few shops or try online www.lakelandlimited.co.uk Think that is their website or do a search on google
Tue 8 Mar 2005, 1.26PM
Where I stay there is a shop which sells equipment for baking and decorating cakes, loads and loads of stuff. They hire out tins so maybe if you've got a cake decorating shop or a friendly baker that could be your cheapest option. Good luck

thanks Adrian, I have tried the chicken like that, sort of southern fried taste and if they see potatoes with bits on I've no chance
Lucy she won't eat cheese either, AAARGH.
I have promised myself that I will let them into the kitchen to do things with me to see if that makes any difference.
Mon 7 Mar 2005, 1.09PM
thanks Boneyapper, I'll try frying them in olive oil. Potatoes - mashed, boiled, roasted, sliced and coked with milk, cream etc. baby potatoes, baked potatoes - she won't even try them
she will occasionally eat potato croquettes (frozen).I must admit I do sometimes use convenience stuff for them, but after seeing the Jamie Oliver prog. I felt really guilty although mine don't like twizzlers
She wont eat fish or eggs either, but loves fruit and yoghurt
Mon 7 Mar 2005, 12.18PM
Does anyone have any tips on making these at home? I've tried a few times but they seem dry. I bake them in the oven but not sure if I cook them too long. Think I've seen somewhere about soaking them in buttermilk first. Also any tips about getting a fussy 5 yo to eat potatoes?
Thanks
Fri 25 Feb 2005, 11.57AM
does anyone have a recipe for rolls or baps. My kids love the Warburtons sliced rolls and I would like to try some. I have a breadmaker but the last recipe I tried turned out like very crusty dinner roll
solid lol. Also has anyone tried making bagels?

does anyone know of a recipe for the above
I can't get my kids to even try home-made soup. There was no problem when they were toddlers. All they'll try now is heinz chicken or tomato. I'm at the end of my tether because I know there is a lot of salt in processed foods and I'd rather not use them
Thanks in advance

Hi Martin, it's carrs sauce flour. Not sure if it's 250g or 500g bags it comes in. My local Tesco sells it. You whisk it into milk and bring it to the boil and it thickens. I bought it when I was trying to diet, but it doesn't quite do the trick when you put a big handful of gorgeous mature cheddar into it

Thu 20 Jan 2005, 12.37PM
There should be enough gravy in it, but you need to serve doughballs or 'dumplings' in it. My kids will only eat it this way. If I have any leftovers my oh likes an egg poached in it
Tue 11 Jan 2005, 11.02AM
I have one of these family size cookers. Think it is morphy richards, bought it mail order so didn't realise it was so big. Think it is about 6.5 litres. I tried to cook chops with a sauce in it, i just covered the chops with liquid and it all dried out. I didn't want to have loads of gravy, any ideas? It is an oval shape and I originall wanted it so as I could cook chicken, brisket ham etc as my other one was too small. It also says to completely cover any joints of meat or poultry which I think is strange because I never did it before

I would also like to know the best way to make chicken stock. When I boil the carcass after a roast it is usually tasteless (and I need to add stock powder
) Is it better to maybe cook the whole chicken with plenty of water and flavourings in my slow cooker. I don't own a oressure cooker anymore.
Mon 22 Nov 2004, 12.56PM
I think before you put it in the oven you should make a hollow in the centre. What I used to do when I made pavlova was I made 2 then sandwiched them with cream, then cream and fruit on the top. I think it's just personal preference really, no hard and fast rules

I found this out last year, so i am going to stock up a bit. It's crazy really when you think about what you spend on groceries at christmas, it's like the shops are going to close for weeks, or maybe that's just me

thanks to all, I carved the pumpkin at halloween but I needn't have bothered looking for a recipe as there was hardly anything in it
Fri 29 Oct 2004, 12.06PM
I have bought a pumpkin for the first time to carve for halloween. I was going to look for a recipe to use the leftovers. I was wondering if it tasted like butternut squash because I didn't like the taste of that. I had made soup with it

ok, call me a saddo
but i've never cooked a leg of lamb. I usually cut it up for kebabs, curries etc. Any nice ideas for it or am I best to keep it simple, bearing in mind the leftovers will probably go into a curry
Haven't done a search yet, but will, so apologies in advance
Wed 6 Oct 2004, 1.21PM
Ken hom did this on a programme before, can't remember which one. We also tried it one christmas. You need to loosen the skin from the duck, think this was done with straw or bicycle pump under the skin, no kidding
Once the skin was loose you basted it with soy sauce etc over a pan, then it had to hang up to dry. I think it was then roasted. It was lovely but seemed a hassle. Try a search for peking duck

I bought a new oval slow coooker which is about 6 litres capacity, I think. One of those chrome Morpht Richards ones, because I wanted one that I could put a whole chicken into, for making stock and using the meat for other dishes etc. My instructions say that when you are cooking you need to have a certain amount of water in the crock. There is only 4 in my family but if I used the amounts they said, I would have enough to feed an army
So what I want to know is does it really make a difference?

looking for good restaurant in Glasgow
Hi, I live in Ayrshire but was brought up in Glasgow, want to school at North Kelvinside (which I think has been pulled down now) and then moved to the South side so no bias
When i go to Glasgow i like to go to La Tasca on renfield st, just up from Central station. Great tapas bar, brill atmos. You can order paellas after 6pm. Also tried Ding's Grand buffet which is in merchant city, if you fancy Chinese or Kublai Khan (mongolian) which is round the corner. Haven't tried it yet but they have a website. Haven't been to the west end in ages, but isn't there a restaurant called two fat ladies? that is supposed to be good and also a greek place on Gt Western road?

Hi, little eddie. I've been on holiday for a couple of weeks and am just catching up on the news. I got my curry secret book from amazon and I did the search for the cc book. I clicked on the bit for buying it used and there was a whole list of people selling it. I paid £3.99 plus £2 odds p&p and got it in about 2 days brill service
Haven't had the chance to try them out yet
but will try
Thu 29 Jul 2004, 2.21PM
Hi JohnM1, contacted country book shop. The book is out of print so they wouldn't be able to get it. No waterstones shops have it and they told me that their website takes you straight to amazon, so it looks like trawling round the 2nd hand bookshops lol. I have a few curry club books, so I'll see if there is anything in them.
Thanks anyway

Wed 28 Jul 2004, 10.38AM
I was looking on amazon for the favourite rest curries, there were a few listed but not easily available. I did a search on google for the title and came up with the curry club's indian restaurant cookbook - also pat chapman. does anybody own this and do you know if it is the same recipes?
Mon 14 Jun 2004, 4.44PM
Is it anything like the cheescake you used to be able to get in TGI Friday's? Haven'y had a chance to look at my copy of good food yet. Keep waiting to get a quiet moment, kids in bed, glass of wine, you get the picture?
Mon 14 Jun 2004, 4.40PM
this conversation has my mouth watering.. i live in Scotland and I love the rolls from Morton's bakery. I thin Tescos sell them but don't think they are quite the same from going into a grocers. Roll spread with butter and a squred sliced sausage with fried onions and brown sauce, yum. Egg and potato scone together is good too.

Non stick coating on GF Grills
I bought a gf grill about 16 mths ago. I don't use it an awful lot and when I do use it I never use any metal utensils. When I clean it, I use a damp cloth or kitchen towel. The other night I used the damp cloth and the plastic scraper to clean it and a load of the non-stick coating started coming off. Has anyone else had ths problem?

I'm pretty sure that clementine cake is in her domestic goddess book
Thu 1 Apr 2004, 10.45AM
I'm sure I've seen these in good old Tesco's in the home dept. I was looking for bottles, jars and stuff to keep my toiletries in instead of the plastic bottles they come in, and I remember seeing them. Hope it's what you're looking for. Won't break the bank either.
Wed 31 Mar 2004, 2.22PM
My favourite recipe comes from an old BBc Good Food magazine. Don't think I'd be able to post it.
Ingredients I use are olive oil, onions, garlic, skinned and chopped tomatoes, chicken, paprika, chilli flakes, risotto rice ( it makes it creamy, Though I'ts not meant to be, but I love it!) saffron, a few glugs of sherry, peas king prawns mussels anything else you fancy

Hi all you bakers out there
I use easy blend yeast in in my breadmaker (thats the only yeast the instructions say you can use) I want to try some of Paul Hollywood's recipes for bread. I haven't made bread by hand and was wondering which yeast you would recommend. I probably wouldn't use fresh, as I don't bake a lot. How do you substitute one for the other? The ingredients section of the site says baker's wouldn't use easy blend. Is it true?
thanks in advance

Hi Andy, i notice you use cardamom pods in your recipes. Do you roast and grind the pods and seeds or just the seeds?
thanks
Sat 20 Mar 2004, 2.46PM
I'm sure that is what it is, I kept thinking Rumptoff - that thing for doing fruit in, but I knew that wasn't right. Does anyone have any recipes please? I'll try doing a search on google as well.
Sat 20 Mar 2004, 2.37PM
Ha! Ha! know what you mean about that kind of diet, I coulnd't stick to it for too long. Life's too short. There was actually a low fat recipe on the site a while ago, I think it was butter chicken. Never got round to doing it, need to get my act together. With 2 young kids, a job which involves working every 2nd Sat, by the time it gets to the weekend, Im shattered, as i'm sure a lot of mothers will agree. I will start trying to get some me time again
Sat 20 Mar 2004, 12.52PM
Kamila, I don't know if it actually sort of steams and roasts, is that poss? It is supposed to keep the meat succulent, I'll need to dig it out, if I cant get through the plastic tubs, cake tins, ramekin dishes, utensils etc....lol
Sat 20 Mar 2004, 12.44PM
Thanks Andy58 for replying. I shall look forward to your beef madras recipe. I haven't seen your recipe for naan, but I'll have a look. I laughed at using extra ghee, curries aren't a dieters dream lol, but they win every time. Any low fat recipes?
Fri 19 Mar 2004, 11.25AM
I've just seen the post on the tagine and It remined me of something I have lurking in the cupboard lol.
I'm not sure what it's called, but it's like a clay roaster with a lid. I think you are supposed to soak it first, then put your chicken or whatever in it, then cover and put it in the oven. I too have lost instructions but something tells me you start it in a cold oven, can anyone enlighten me?
Fri 19 Mar 2004, 11.10AM
For Andy58
do you find that when you cook anything in the slow cooker that you end up with loads of extra liquid? Even when I try not to use too much at the beginning it turns out like this. BTW I will get round to trying your recipe, just clearing out the spice cupboard lol. Do you have any nice spicy recipes, as we normally eat hot curries in our house or could I make your CTM hotter. Would that spoil it?
Thanks in advance
Tue 16 Mar 2004, 11.43AM
Instant yeast, is that the same as the easy blend yeast? I have also been told Paul, that you don,t like breadmakers. I tried to beke bread before, but I don,t think I kneaded it properly. Any tips - and do you need somewhere warm for it to prove?
Tue 16 Mar 2004, 10.13AM
I'm a sucker for buying kitcthen equipment which ends up sitting in the cupboard, if I can find the space! I used to own a pressure cooker and was thinking of buying a new one, is it worth it? or should I maybe try a steamer ? Any suggestions as to which I might get the most use from

Bread from Paul Hollywood's book
Hi mary, it sounds great. Did the book give any info or tips on how to convert the recipes for use in a breadmaker? I know it sounds lazy but I just never got the hang of making bread by hand.

Hi
thanks for your replies. I have bought turkey roasting bags, so they will be large. I have been told to put the duck on a rack in the bag, the make slits on the top. The skin should still crisp, fingers crossed!
Fri 12 Dec 2003, 12.50PM
I've already posted this on recipes, but can you roast duck in a roasting bag? Does the skin still crisp. All this to save the mess in the oven on xmas day!
thanks in advance
Fri 12 Dec 2003, 12.47PM
Can you cook duck in a roasting bag? Does the skin crisp? I hate the mess it makes of the oven but someone suggested bags, but I'm not sure
Thu 11 Dec 2003, 4.10PM
Have you tried la Tasca on Renfield Street? You can't book a table but the atmoshere is brilliant. It serves tapas all day complete with Spanish waiters!
Does a great paella after 6pm
Thu 11 Dec 2003, 12.56PM
I was thinking of trying a capon on Xmas day because I was told it was more juicy than turkey.
I also don't have many to feed. Has anyone tried it?
I also read somewhere that they were illegal to produce in this country, so does that mean if I got one from my butcher that it would be imported and/ or frozen? I would never buy meat now that was imported, and after that program on tv, I would never buy frozen poultry.
Thu 11 Dec 2003, 12.02PM
Thanks for replying debbie and mirandaP, yes my machine does have a dough setting and you add the water first and then all the dry ingredients, it's a kenwood BM200. Do you have to change the quantities of ingredients because it's being done in a machine? I usually just use the book with the breadmaker, I haven't got around to doing anything else.
Sat 6 Dec 2003, 3.53PM
Can anybody tell me if they have baked any of Paul's recipes in the breadmaker. How do you adjust them? I'm hopeless at traditional methods but his recipes look great.
Thanks
Wed 3 Dec 2003, 10.41AM

Sat 7 Jun 2003, 2.43PM
Hi
I usually do baking etc for the school for fetes etc. Does anyone have nice quick and easy recipes either for doing by hand or the breadmaker?
Preferably not anything with nuts as a few of the kids are allergic
Sat 7 Jun 2003, 2.40PM
Hi
Thanks to everyone who has posted. I have since tried chicken breast on the grill and it was lovely. I marinaded it in yoghurt + spices and then cooked it. The coating went a wee bit yukky but not too bad, the chicken remained quite moist. I think you need to experiment with the timing so food doesn't dry out. As for cleaning, if you scrape the grill while it's still hot with the plastic spatula the gunk comes off quite easily. Then it's just a matter over wiping down with a hot soapy dishcloth when it's cooled
Tue 27 May 2003, 12.19PM
does anyone have any nice ideas for using the gf grill apart from the usual burgers etc, thanks

hi Carole1, I'm also carol. I'm quite new to the boards so I haven't tried much as I'm also dieting, GROAN!. I go to WW where do you go?
Tue 1 Apr 2003, 11.07AM
Hi, I did preheat the grill and I used to brush the plates with oil. I spoke to the home economist at customer services for the people who make the grill and she told me only to oil the steaks. The grill is only oiled the first few times to get it seasond. She also told me that the grill you can buy in France gets hotter because of the way that they like their meat cooked -like me LOL. I tried it again last night and it was a bit better, I thin you need to leave the steaks thicker!. I'll keep trying but would appreciate any tips. Have you tried grilling anything coated in marinade, yoghurt etc, is it ok? Thanks again
Sat 22 Mar 2003, 2.31PM
I'v bought one of these grills, tried it a few times and quite like it, but one of the things I was looking forward to was a good steak, dark on the outside, med rare inside. When I tried it, the staek was an unappetising pale colour and it was cooked through very quickly. Do you have to coat the steaks with anything??
I also brushed the grill with oil as you're supposed to.
