Ina Garten, the Barefoot Contessa

Hi. Yes it was a one hour show just about Ina - her childhood, growing up, history of the shop, everything. (It was on +1 when I emailed which is why you may have missed it).
Azelia - it keeps blocking the link but just put Redwood Bay into Google and we're the first thing that comes up. Hope you like it!

Sorry, not sure - been snowed under in the shop. However, just stumbled across The Food Network on my Sky box channel 262 which I never noticed before. Or am I a bit behind on that one?

Now I can definitely help with the pancake mix and syrup! A little more expensive than the supermarkets, but the difference in taste is huge. (Most of our food goes to Americans that now live here so they know the brands already - and not the cheap nasty stuff like Betty Crocker - urgh!). Blurgh

Are you sure you haven't started on the wine a bit too early!!!?
I'm up to my ears in flour, sanding sugar and cookie cutters for Halloween at the moment. We've had the magazines round in the shop today doing a photoshoot for the new stuff. (The cake flour sold out within half an hour! Happy Days!). Big Grin Big Grin Big Grin

Hi HLG. Did I really say today? I know it's Oct/Nov for 5 weeks but I don't know what day that starts from, sorry. Don't waste the wine though - I'll pop round for a glass later! Smile

To be perfectly honest I didn't actually know about it until the girls from Stonewall Kitchen phoned and told me as I've been busy sorting out stuff for the shop. I'm like a kid at Christmas at the moment as in about 3 hours I have a large container of goodies arriving from American Airlines with LOADS of new stuff like King Arthur Flour and proper maple sugar etc. I'm so easily pleased! Hi All. I didn't know if you guys knew, but Ina won an Emmy for her show at the awards last weekend. She was very happy! Big Grin

Hi. FYI - the show will be returning Oct/Nov for about 5 weeks showing at 7.30am, 11.30am and 6pm, so you can get your daily fix again. Get the wine out! Big Grin

Hi HLG31. No cost, it's just a publicity image her people sent me that I can email if you wanted a copy, only I can't put my email address on the post. Do you know how to find my shop website? You can email me through that.

Hi HLG31. No I don't know either - leave it with me. I think they may also be an issue with the posts because half of my last message is missing. It was supposed to also say if anyone wanted a copy to let me know.

Hi All. Just a quick one - Ina's PA is sending me a detailed list of ingredients and things that Ina uses so I can try and source them, but I was wondering was there anything you can think of that she uses that we can't buy here? Also, with regards to the boat - I think Ina knows that if he had one she'd never see him again!

Hi Cornetto. I've known her for a while now and I'm not just saying it to be nice, but yes she is exactly the same as she appears. In fact I've never seen her miserable at all. She is just one of those positive, happy people. Unfortunately that's not always the case as doing what I do I've come across a few people who after being on telly really aren't the same as they come across and start believing their own hype. Whereas Ina can't believe she's famous!

Hey All. Just got back from NY. 6 days of just tasting food - you guys would have hated it! They have so much more choice of good quality food than we do over here, although I think it's a case of their extremes being wider than ours i.e. their low quality food ('cheese whizz' etc) is blimmin awful and worse than our basic stuff, but their gourmet food is amazing. I'll be getting loads of that over in the next couple of months that's for sure! (Maureen take note! Thanks for the kind comments about the shop - see you in Bath soon!) Spent loads of time with Ina on her stand with all the guys from Stonewall Kitchen, she is clearly still very popular in the U.S. as well as here. She was thrilled when I said about you all chatting online about her show and recipes etc, and liking what she cooks. She was getting loads of attention from the press which is a good sign as there are now so many U.S. cooks and cookery shows it's just getting silly over there. She was even interviewed by NBC on their morning show as one of the main people to see at the fair which given that there were literally thousands of stands and cooks is amazing. Obviously I asked about coming to the U.K. which she would love to do and I will try and arrange for sometime next year as this year is too full for her. You'll just have to wait!

Azelia - Only too happy to have stirred things up! Although to be fair I think with the new series starting it would have happened anyway. Do you make sure you pass some credit to Ina for your chocolate bars, as one of my customers got rumbled with some Lemon Bars the other day trying to pass them off as hers without realising her friends son works in my shop and saw her buy the mix! CheekyDevelish !

I think the barn IS the same size as the house! I will ask where the door in the kitchen leads to......

I think she'd be delighted if someone started a fan club (don't look at me! That might be a bit wierd!). I'm just happy to pass on letters (three arrived this morning - you guys don't hang around do you?!) and answer questions. In answer to one - yes I'm getting in the shredded coconut and the kosher salt. Any other items you have 5 days to let me know!

Babsky - I've not been to Ina's house, I know her more on a professional work level. Although from what I've seen of it, it's pretty nice! I know Jeffrey is still working at Yale but not sure about any retirement plans. I'll ask.
Alc28 - yes my shop is in Bath.
Cornetto - I'll let her know. She'll be thrilled that she is so popular. Although you might have a fight on your hands with a few other bloggers with regards to the 'best fan' claim!

Hi Sally - (my real name is still Adrian!) It wasn't my intention to make everyone envious - I'll have no friends left at this rate! It's only a business trip this time to see what new baking mixes and marinades she has bought out as they are really popular. I don't think she'll be cooking!

I don't think I'll have a problem with her wanting to coming over, it's her 'people' that make the decisions, and they are a little trickier to persuade as they want gauranteed numbers of people to show up etc, which is much easier to do in the U.S. But hey, you never know!

Hi Babsky. I tried to organise her coming over to the U.K. last year to do a book signing at the Good Food show in Birmingham but had to cancel at the last minute as her book tour in the U.S. was extended. The closest I got was offering signed books at my shop (which I can't mention here but you should be able to find it online easily enough!). I have known her for a couple of years now as she was introduced to me by Jim and Jonathon from Stonewall Kitchen in Maine who make her range of food. I have lots of people who ask questions about her and I am more than happy to answer them. Anything I don't know I'll just call her or her P.A. Smile

Yes, these are the most recent shows and obviously tie in with the book you have which came out last October. The book by the way is now a New York Times No.1 best seller! I don't know if she's filming another series as she filmed this a while ago but I'll ask her.

She definitely only cooks what she wants to eat, and of course what Jeffrey wants! As for the food police, well, I'm off to dip some sugar coated butter in cream and pop it in the oven for half an hour! Lovely!

As I'm new to the message boards, are there any questions that people seem to keep asking that I might be able to help with?

Ha ha. I think the customs people might have something to say about that! "Is there something moving in your bag sir?".
I certainly recommend visiting the East Coast, it's as lovely as you can imagine. I will pass on your regards, and yes she is as warm and 'homely' and she seems on T.V.
I guess you've just watched the start of the new series?

Hi Mildredmouse & Homelovinggirl. I'm probably going to make you both jealous now but I'm off to New York next week to meet Ina at a food show as she is a friend. I would be happy to pass on any letters/emails to her as she would love to know how many fans she has here.
