Gennaro Contaldo’s traditional recipe for a Sidecar cocktail packs a citrus punch, with fresh oranges and lemon to pep up the Cointreau

Ingredients

  • 1 tbsp lemon juice, plus extra for the glass rim
  • Sugar, for glass rim
  • 60ml Cognac
  • 30ml Cointreau
  • 1 tbsp orange juice

Method

1. Rub fresh lemon around the rim of a tall-stemmed Martini glass then press onto a plate of sugar to line the rim.

2. Shake the lemon juice, cognac, Cointreau and orange juice together in a cocktail shaker with plenty of ice. Strain the cocktail into the glass and serve.
