Method
2. Sift the flour into a large mixing bowl, crack in the egg and add the milk a little bit at a time, whisking constantly until a smooth batter forms.
3. Smear the dripping or fat around the whole tin with your fingers, so it is spread evenly all over. Pour in the batter.
4. Bake in the oven for 15-20 minutes until well risen and golden brown.

I was taught to heat the fat/dripping until very hot
