Alessandro Palazzi shakes up what is reputed to be the first ever cocktail (at least in the US)

Sazerac cocktail

Method

1. Fill a cocktail glass with ice and leave to chill. Tip out the ice.

2. Add the absinthe, swirl it around to coat the entire sides and bottom of the glass then discard the excess.

3. In a mixing glass or cocktail shaker, drip the bitters onto the sugar lump. Grind to a powder using a muddler. Add the rye whiskey and some ice cubes and stir/shake together to cool all the ingredients.

4. Strain into the chilled glass and add the twist of lemon peel. Enjoy!
