These sticky-fried, honey-coated fingers from Janet Brinkworth make a great way to satisfy a sweet tooth - Russian style!
Ingredients
- 4 Eggs
- 2 tbsp Sugar
- 100g icing sugar
- 2 tsp Butter
- 1/3 tsp Salt
- 60ml Milk
- 500g plain flour
- vegetable oil, for frying
For the syrup:
Method
1. Blend eggs, sugar and butter. Add salt, milk and flour and knead until the mixture forms a smooth dough. Leave the dough to rest for 40 minutes, and then roll out finely and cut strips 2cm in length.2. Place the honey and sugar in a saucepan over a moderate heat and stir until the sugar is dissolved. Continue to cook until the mixture thickens and turns an amber caramel colour.
3. Heat the oil in a frying pan and fry the strips for about 5 minutes, until golden. Drain on kitchen paper.
4. Dip the strips into the syrup and arrange on a serving plate. Serve immediately.
