Salvatore Calabrese stirs up a special treat with this minty, bourbon-laced variation on the classic mint julep

The American word 'julep' can be traced to French julep, which comes from the Arabic julab, rom the Persian julab, meaning 'rose water'. The drink as we know it today is an American invention.
Ingredients
- bunch of fresh mint leaves
- 1 tsp caster sugar
- 50ml Bourbon whiskey
- 1 tbsp cold water
- soda water
Method
1. Divide the mint between two 'old fashioned' glasses or short tumblers.2. Add the sugar and water. Muddle until the sugar is dissolved.
3. Add the Bourbon. Fill the glass with crushed ice. Stir.
4. Top up with club soda, garnish with a sprig of mint and serve with a straw and a stirrer.
