  Oxford has no shortage of sandwich bars, but not one can match the creativity, freshness, and good value of Alpha Bar. The sandwich and salad fillings are vegetarian- and vegan-friendly and created daily from organic ingredients, as are the homemade cakes. If nothing else will convince you, stop by at lunchtime to witness the daily queue-- the longest in the Covered Market-- of devoted customers who return regularly for the toasted ciabatta with sundried tomato pesto and roasted vegetables, the goat's cheese salad with puy lentils and hummus, or the vegan cranberry and pumpkinseed flapjacks. Alpha Bar is a sister establishment to the Vaults and Garden (in Radcliffe Square), and offers a quicker and more casual option for those devoted to local, seasonal, organic food.
