Top quality meat pies and vegetable pies, with very good seasoning. Queues out of the door and the fact they're sold out by 1pm speak for themselves.

    The best, freshest butter around.

Good simple food, well cooked. The shop has a good range or well selected produce, though maybe the chill counter could do with some improvement. Service in the restaurant can really suffer very badly when they are busy during the daytime. But it's not just when they're busy: while waiting for a table, I've far too often been utterly ignored, and then they get very uppity if you go and sit yourself at an empty table. It's usually worth the hassle though!

If Bob Kitching were a building, he should be listed. A true ambassador for cheese and particularly Lancashire cheese. Shame all his cheeses are waxed though, as I don't think that allows the old fashioned true flavour to come through. The mini very young Lancashires are a genius innovation.

Excellent breads. Not really much more to say. This is genuine food hero territory.

The best Lancashire black pudding there is, with no shadow of doubt. The white pudding is delicious fried for breakfast. The vegetarian black pudding is a triumph of modern invention.

Winner of numerous awards, and rightly so. My only criticism would be that they pack the fish and chips in styrofoam containers that aren't environmentally friendly and don't do much for the fish and chips as both sweat inside them.

Useful if you're in the shop. Personally I wouldn't make a detour for here, given all else that Leeds and W. Yorks has to offer, but the quality and service are there.

Morecambe Bay has the best shrimps in the country and the best potted shrimps. Edmondsons have the best potted shrimps on Morecambe Bay. Catches his own shrimps, boils them at sea, pots them at the back, then opens up the shop and does a full days work. The quality of the wet fish is very good too, though maybe in comparison with bigger shops (this is a tiny little shop) the range is sometimes limited - but that just means it's all fresher.

Excellent in all respects. John is passionate about his cheese, and all the staff are great. This must also be the only cheesemongers in the world with a resident pianist.

The meat is good, but the curd cheeses are divine!

  • On Roy Porter:

This place is a temple to meat, and Roy Porter is somewhere between priest and god. The quality and range of the meat is exeptional. The service is brilliant. The downside are the unusual opening hours - mornings only for three days of the week, including Saturday.

I couldn't disagree more with the other comment. A huge variety of sausages, but most of them seem to taste the same to me, and I've never been over-impressed by the quality of the ingredients that go into the sausages. Jolly good name for a butcher's though.
