by Charistefrom West Yorkshire
Recipe Story
This has been passed down through the female side of the family for a least 3 generations. Unfortunately there have never been any exact measurements so ensure you use the same cup for measuring.
Servings:
8 to 10 slicesLevel of difficulty:
EasyIngredients
1 Cup Of Bran
3/4 Cup of Caster Sugar
1 Cup of mixed dried fruits.
1 Cup of Milk
1 Cup of Self Raising flour
Method
Mix together the bran, sugar, and fruit in a large bowl.
Cover with milk and leave to stand until the milk has soaked into the bran.
Add the self raising flour and mix throughly.
Line a loaf tin with greaseproof paper and pour in the mixture levelling the top.
Cook at 180oc for 1 hr then reduce to 160oc for half an hour.
Remove from oven when the loaf is pierced with a knife and comes out clean.
Leave to cool - can be eaten straight away but is at its best when stored in an air tight container wrapped in foil for a few days.
