My husband and I started eating at Simplicity when it first opened, determined to support a new local business. As it turned out this is no hardship - we were so impressed with the food that we have continued to make regular visits. They have always been very accommodating of our young baby and the standard of the dishes and service remains very high. We're very lucky to have a restaurant of this standard in Rotherhithe.

Lived in the area for years and can't say how fantastic it is to have this restaurant locally. Brilliant choice of local ingredients, excellent cooking and impeccable service. The atmosphere is great - chilled and totally unstuffy. Can't recommend it too highly.

A senusla dn all round yumy experince! This is a real gem. Delicious honest food, fresh local seasonal ingrediants, excellent service, a clean stylish space and value for money. A small focused menu with no hint of pretentiousness. My partner & I enjoyed the evening dining experience tonight and were very impressed. The seabream with pesto sauce on the side was gorgeous. The wine list good, at great prices. I would have expected top pay 3 times as much for the same quality anywhere else. Laurance, the chef and owner, was charming & welcoming. We will be returning soon to try the Sunday brunch menu.

I live locally and have walked past on a couple of occasions and thought I would go in. My only regret is that I didn't go inside sooner! Had an excellent meal this evening, the sea bass. The service was excellent and the quiet background music added to the ambiance. Great meal. Save space for the dessert.

I have been eating at Simplicity since it opened and have always had a great dining experience. I also had a birthday party there and all my friends commented on how lucky we are to have such a great local restaurant.

I've been a food critic for years and don't normally give any good reviews easily. My preference has always been local foods that taste great, and worthy of mention and recommendation, regardless of the dining experience or the deco of the restaurant. Simplicity has surprisingly top these criteria in all respects. The food has the zing of freshness that is all but lost in restaurants in London these days. It is very pleasant bordering relief to find Lawrence (the Chef) to be passionately focussed on delivering the best with the freshest, and this is proven with the dishes that I have eaten there. Chef Lawrence is a very heartwarming individual who cares enough to take the time to speak with his customers, many of whom I have observed to be very happy with the food. He handled conversations very well and carried himself well. If you are in the vicinity of SE16, do remember and consider this restaurant. The better restaurants are normally the quieter and smaller ones. And they are the ones that need our support and word of mouth to make them known. Go to thre restaurant yourself to try it - you will be delighted and you will wish to also say a few good things about Simplicity in online reviews.

Simply a nice place to eat and "chill out". Very pleasant staff and great food. And when its time to go - no "bill shock"

I have had dinner and breakfast at Simplicity and both meals were sumptously divine. The restaurant is very clean and comfy. The staff are pleasant and helpful. Chef Lawrence is quite the talented food artist! 'Simplicity', simply put is simply the best! Kandoucie

What can I say, a real hidden gem. I have lived in the area for the last 20 years, and its is so refreshing to find a lovely well presented, friendly and clean restaurant. Laurence is an excellent restaurateur, and his staff are always professional. The food and ambiance are always excellent. I recommend this restaurant all the time.

I've visited Simplicity three times in the last 6 months and been thoroughly happy each time! The menu is fairly simple but with more than enough choice between well-executed dishes. Sunday night's steak bernaise was exquisite! The staff are invariably friendly, professional, flexible and charming and the prices very reasonable. I feel genuinely lucky to have Simplicity in our area.

Can only reiterate everything said in the previous reviews, this is a fantastic restaurant with great food and Laurence really makes a great effort to ensure everyone feels extremely welcome and has a good time.

We have now eaten here twice, and each time have been impressed by the excellent cooking and the relaxed, friendly atmosphere. With few good restaurants in SE16, this place really stands out, and it is clear that the chef (who came over at the end of the meal to chat with us and check we had enjoyed the meal) takes great pride in the place. Keep it up!

Great food, friendly service in a pleasant atmosphere.....and with an ever changing menu and nice wines. All this at a very affordable price.

We had a very nice meal and found nothing lacking. Food was excellent and cooked to perfection. Portions generous and service with a smile. Chef spoke to us afterwards and clearly loves his work. We will definately revisit sooner rather than later.

Once a customer, now an employee. There is a definite charm in this special little restaurant. Tucked away on a quiet street and quite rightly too, you wouldn’t want everyone to hear about where to find top notch food that’s good value for money. Simplicity, ‘it does exactly what it say’s on the tin’.

mottyofmot mottyofmot Posted 06 Jul 2008 1:32 AM

We have been to Simplicity twice recently and it was a lovely meal on both occasions. Nice relaxed atmosphere and friendly staff. And reasonably priced too. A welcome addition to the local area.

I went with a friend to Simplicity last night, and the food was great! As we both work in the inductry, we were pleasantly surprised to find this little gem in Rotherhithe Village. A must for any one who enjoys good quality food, done well at an affordable price. The Chef/Owner Laurence came up to the table and chatted to us about how the products are sourced locally and the menu changes daily.. Quite inspiring in fact! I will definitely be back soon and can't wait to tell all my other friends about it!!

Wonderful restaurant: great food, friendly staff. When we were moving house (just down the road) we ate twice here in one day! Seek it out!

Pip888 Pip888 Posted 03 Jul 2008 5:43 PM

A fantastic little restaurant and we are very hard to please. A simple menu in simple surroundings, and then there is the food, superbly cooked and expertly presented the chef is so confident in his art to plate up the food in front of his paying customers and he does it so professionally. The staff are polite and attentive and the prices are reasonable. There is the set menu (3 courses for £16.50 per head) or the Al La Carte and the wines are fairly priced too.

Lawrence the owner of this wonderful oasis of gastronomical delight, recently organised a lunch for over 20 people. He spent time going through the menu, agreeing what options would work and Invested time to make sure that it was an absolute success which indeed it was! We were lucky to have the place to ourselves for the duration and he even helped blow up the balloons for the celebration. The food was fantastic and he has such a great selection of good priced red wines too accompany. He is generous to a fault.

david248 david248 Posted 03 Jul 2008 11:38 AM

Such a great restaurant. Wonderful food and wine at a very reasonable price; cosy atmosphere and always service with a smile. Lawrence (the owner) always takes the time to have a chat with his customers. It's not surprising he is building up a loyal set of regulars.

Excellent food Friendly service Reasonable prices

yrrab007 yrrab007 Posted 03 Jul 2008 9:39 AM

It's one of the gems of London. Good food, great wine list served by friendly staff to be enjoyed in a relaxed yet intimate atmosphere - and the best thing is it's all very reasonably priced. It's certainly worth taking a trip off the beaten track to tickle the old taste buds.

Chun-Han Chun-Han Posted 03 Jul 2008 9:21 AM

Great little resturant, very intimate. Hidden away, opposite Bunnels Engine House in the heart of old Rotherhithe. Excellent food and good value. Also a great place for brunch at the weekend. Lawrence, the head chief, is on hand to chat and he really takes pride in the resturant and the local area. Glad to support such a high quality local business.

Friendly staff and atmosphere where you feel so comfortable it beats eating at home. Prices good and food great ( we leave it to the chef to choose our main ). Also can catch Lawrence (owner) helping out with the food at the local museum and church. Recommended.

Really excellent food, friendly and efficient service and a personal interest from the proprietor. Also very good value for money and altogether strongly recommended.

A firm local favourite for weekend brunch. A concise menu of seemingly straight forward dishes done very well. Nice quiet environment and effective service. A great all round experience.

Will50 Will50 Posted 23 Jun 2008 3:44 PM

Quite simply, this place has top notch food that is always well presented and cooked to a high standard by Lawrence. The staff are always friendly and welcoming staff and the dining atmosphere is a great balance of relaxing and stylish. It is my favorite place to dine whether it be for brunch, lunch or dinner!

Simplicity is the jewel in Rotherhithe. It is a small friendly local restaurant which I go to as much as my wallet will allow! The owner is a great guy and always finds the time to come and have a chat with his costomers, even though he cooks the food too! The food is always fantastic and some locally sourced, great value and a fantasic selection of great wines. I take friends and family, who always enjoy it as much as I do. It is so nice to have Simplicity on my doorstep and I wish them every sucsess in the future. The last visit I made was for brunch today and it was as great as ever!

craigalmond craigalmond Posted 22 Jun 2008 5:06 PM

We have been visiting this restaurant since it opened. We have been back time and time and again. The food and the service is fantastic, they are so friendly and helpful and its so nice to have a good quality restaurant on our doorstep. We have taken many friends for lunch and dinner and they have all been very impressed. Also they use local ingredients which makes even more special. I would recommend this restaurant over and over again, go and try it its worth it.

ASM747 ASM747 Posted 22 Jun 2008 4:34 PM

I always look forward to and enjoy eating meals prepared by Lawrence because I know he values using locally produced and sourced food of a high quality. The results of the dishes he presents show this as well as showing his culinary skills.

Everything a good local restaurant should be-good value,a limited but interesting menu very well executed and a very warm welcome. Patricia

A real find in gastronomically deprived Rotherhithe.fantastically friendly welcome and competant cooking with locally sourced ingredients make this the sort of local restaurant you want to go back to time and time again.

dudley3 dudley3 Posted 21 Jun 2008 5:41 PM

Great local restaurant that really serves the local community (councillors, farm, etc) as well as doing great English food. The head chef is a great host and the food is consistently excellent.

Europeanpete Europeanpete Posted 21 Jun 2008 5:38 PM

Excellent local restaurant, great atmosphere, warm hospitality, first class food and great wine list. We visit at every opportunity. Top marks for sourcing fresh local produce and supporting the community. Thank you.

Went to Simplicity to celebrate our engagement last night. Fantastic food, beautifully presented - particularly the tulip biscuits and warm strawberries! Sausage and Mash (locally sourced) was delicious. Owner Laurence comes to speak to all of the customers - a really nice chap who is very keen to make a success of this great local restaurant.

benedictreid benedictreid Posted 21 Jun 2008 11:11 AM

I`ve been to simplicity a number of time, the food was great so was the staff...........great place

rodent1 rodent1 Posted 20 Jun 2008 4:18 PM

The restaurant is in an area which is sparse on local independent restaurants and makes full use of the local Surrey Docks Farm, sourcing lamb, beef, pork and duck eggs when available. I have recently met with the head of catering at nearby Southwark college and have since employed on a part time basis 2 students, offering them much needed trade experience . Every Saturday the local councillors for the area hold their surgery at the restaurant which provides the local community with direct access to their elected councillors to discuss and raise any topics they so wish. I am trying to provide a local community restaurant for the local community to use how they wish.

Lawrence11 Lawrence11 Posted 18 Jun 2008 11:30 AM

A lovely little restaurant tucked away in Rotherhithe village, the staff were very friendly and helpful. The menu had variety and the food was fresh, freshly cooked and exquisite. The wine list was also very good. I have, and will go on recommending this place as the chef sources his food locally and is supportive of his community. He runs a very cosy and friendly restaurant Angie
