View all reviews (5)June 18th and June 25th 2008 - Tucked away in the village of Scampston, this delightful shop exceeded all our expectations. From marvellous pork pies (large and small), huge scones, delicious bread and local bacon and ham, to the freshest of free range eggs. A real treat for my daughter was a visit to the hen house, where she collected our eggs, including the biggest egg I have ever seen (poor chicken !) which was a fabulous double yolker. The service was exceptional, making a return visit the following week for second helpings of all of the above!
We dicovered this wonderful little shop last weekend. On going in the lady will offer you a tray on which to place your purchases, trouble is, you will fill the tray! The pork pies are out of this world, the scones are huge, the chocolate cake is wonderful without being heavy and sticky, and I could go on. I think that we should have got in earlier to get at the best selection of breads, but wont make the same mistake next time. Forgot to mention... the free range eggs. great price, and the layers will meet you as you get out of your car! :) A terrific little find, and I am going to keep it all to myself and not tell anyone about it!
I have not visited the shop but The Bakery goes to the local farmers' market every month where they put on a wonderful display of cakes, buns and savoury tarts. The chocolate cake is really yummy! I have tried different items (and had things brought to me from the shop) and they are always of good quality and fresh.
Wonderful bakery - Cakes, Tarts, Breads. The most amazing iced wedding/party cakes. Yummy pickles, jams etc & small amount local meats. The best sticky coffee loaf ever. In gorgeous surroundings.
