Alston House

Café Restaurant

Selling: Home-Cooked Dishes

Set in a beautiful 17th century building a stones throw away from the cobbled streets of Alston, this family-run hotel offers locally-sourced, home-cooked dishes in its popular restaurant. With 25 years of experience as a chef under his belt, Mike makes classic hearty fare such as Steak and Ale pie using Cumbrian beef, as well as delicious puds (the Banoffee Pie is legendary), whilst wife Carol brings her warm charm to the front of house.

The food is the best for miles around with very friendly and helpful staff. All food homemade and cooked fresh to order.

The food is consistantly good you know you can always get a good meal. Large wholesome portions, the homemade sweets are to die for I would travel miles just for the puddings alone. The banoffie pie is like no other and is lushious. Carole and Mike support local businesses all the meat is cumbrian, the fish from the North sea. The candles on the tables from Teds and the toiletries used for the guests bedroom are made in Garrigill.

The food and the service was outstanding! My husband doesn't like cheese so the chef made him a home made soup especially. The service was also very good and everyone was very obliging. Nothing was too much trouble and I would reccomend this to anyone who is travelling in that area. Top class restaurant.

The couple that run Alston House always welcome you with a smile. I have food allergies and nothing is too much trouble, they always do everything they can to accommodate my needs. It helps that the food is absolutely brilliant. I’d recommend everyone visit Alston House, it’s located high in the Pennines, with some of the most spectacular scenery and walks in the UK. If you like food I think you will be very happy eating here.

They sell delicious locally sourced home cooked food. The menu is varied and interesting. The Chef goes to great lengths to ensure that customers enjoy every mouthful and the food is never disappointing. Puddings are especially innovative and scrumptious.
