Restaurant

Selling: Drinks, Home-Cooked Dishes

With views overlooking the Black Mountains, this 17th century inn serves food that is heavily influenced by Italian and French cuisine but also offers classic British dishes to go with its traditional surroundings. Menus are subject to change depending upon the seasonal availability of ingredients, as the majority are sourced from producers in the surrounding area, but special diets are catered for. Two local farmers supply the meat used, and another nearby farm supplies fresh vegetables. Each Wednesday is a themed evening which can vary from Polish cuisine, Indian, Italian to Herefordian.

The restaurant serves excellent food made from the best locally sourced produce. All dietary requirements are catered for and Gluten Free Cookery Tuition is given. The steaks are prepared to order using beef that comes from three local farms through local butchers. They have been proclaimed 'The Best In The County'. The pork is orchard reared which gives it an excellent flavour and is again local. Local seasonal produce is used where possible. The Inn speciality is Beef Wellington and prides itself on traditional Sunday Roast Lunch. The real ales, fine wines and spirits complement the high quality food. There is a log burner for the winter months, original local art works decorate the walls and a warm welcome is always assured.

On a weeks visit to Almeley we dined at the Lion Inn quite a few times starting with Sunday Lunch which was the best we have tasted in home cooking in a long time. We can also recommend the choice of steaks with wonderful sauces. We could not fault the food or the service. We will be back.

The Chef is not a food snob she will produce steamed suet pudding for my lunch (without prior booking) or Cottage Pie when I am Lambing or shearing. As a farmer my hours are difficult but she can always cook the perfect fillet steak with my favourite Shallot & Madeira Sauce at a moments notice when I get a night off or just give me a cup of tea. She recognizes a tired man at short distance. Keep up the good work.

Lentil curry has never tasted so good. The chef is exceptional in the creation of vegetarian and vegan food. Even Vegans ask how she makes pancakes without eggs!!! I am just happy that she creates wonderful dishes for me at the drop of a hat.

The Lion Inn caters for Gluten/Wheat Free Diets, Vegan and Vegetarian and Dairy/Lactose Intolerant Diets. The food is exciting, the restaurant menu is fresh an seasonal. They even have a Herefordian themed menu on a Themed Night. Every cuisine is taken in from Cajun, Italian to Indian. The Chef researches and tests cuisine from every country and each week is told 'That was the best' 'Puddings are to die for'
