Halseys Deli & Tearoom

2008 Regional Finalist
Cheesemonger

Selling:

Renowned world wide for its cooked meats, pies and cheeses, this delicatessen and fine food shop has been offering its customers quality foods for over 150 years. Halseys Deli has also recently opened tea room boasting a wide selection of over 40 teas and 20 coffees and a local vegetables section selling only what they can buy locally and in season. Much of their produce go into the making of products for their tearoom. Local food evenings are held in the shop where one may be sat next to the cheese counter to enjoy a four-course set menu with BYOB. Halseys Deli also offers a 'barter scheme' whereby local growers can bring in any produce that they might have excess of and exchange it in-store, at market value, for something they would prefer.

Halseys is a very special place held close in the hearts of many Hitchin residents. The deli has the most wonderderful selections of teas and coffees and as for the cheese counter.....wow. Damian has been at pains to select cheeses that are not necessarily available in the larger supermarkets which has made the counter an multi sensory experience that we all should try. He also makes sure that his fruit and veg are all seasonal and, more importantly, local, thus supporting local growers. Last year saw the opening of the tearoom. The food is all cooked on the premises, a very high standard and reasonable in price. What more could one ask for!! Congratulations to Damian and Kirsty for all the work they have done to support the local community. Well done you two!

Damien and Kirsty have a real passion for food and feeding people. Their food evenings are the best around and the selection of good food is stunning. They source loads of stuff locally and are always trying new things - real foodies! When you pop in, there are always little things out for you to try that you may not have tried before.

Damien has a real passion for food and is a great believer in sourcing locally. Good luck to Halseys - not that they need it - they are already winners!

The tea room serves the best teas and coffees in the area and has wonderful quality meals all freshly prepared using the produce sold from the Deli. This place is a favorite with all our family and friends, and makes a great change from the big name shops which seem to be taking over our town centres.

This is the first place we head on a Saturday in Hitchin. The food in the tea room and shop is local and excellent. The staff are friendly and really helpful and the price is very reasonable. They have a great range of teas & coffees in the Tea Room and everything is made on the premises. Go and give it a try.

Halsey's is an amazing deli and I visit often. It's a pleasure to have a wander and try new things. The cheese counter is something else and as for the spicy salami, well, very very good! You also receive a slice to try whilst their slicing your order! We've attended nearly every Food evening and enjoy sitting next to the meat counter and deciding which treats to try next! If you're in Hitchin - a visit is a must!!

They say it's the best thing ever to happen to Hitchin. They are right.

I remember the original Halsey's store and was genuinely worried about it's future when the old family business was handed over but I needn't have worried because it has gone from strength to strength. I could effuse endlessly about Halseys, it's produce and staff but then you'd probably all get bored so I'll try to keep it short and to the point by listing what my favourite things are; - all the produce sold is top quality. - the range of goods is extensive and suits a wide variety of customers. - the staff are relaxed, friendly and knowledgeable and there's a real sense of "harmony" when you're in there. - It's been my regular "treat stop" for years and it's the only place where I willing let my senses take their leave when it comes to trying new things and spending money. - it supports local producers by selling their goods instore and idenitifying their origins. - the recent addition of a teashop has been very succesful and despite the amount of other establishments nearby, Halseys stands head and shoulders above them all. You really cannot beat getting in there for a cup of something hot, something freshly prepared to eat and to finish it off - a piece of chocolate tiffin to die for! At the risk of sounding as if I have a personal interest in this personal business, I cannot praise Halseys highly enough. Damien, Kirsty and their staff deserve to win this award because they combine quality produce, service and price which isn't something o

With the introduction of the tearoom to a truly fantastic deli it's great to see an independent challenging the established coffee outlets in Hitchin. Service is always friendy, and the owners are really working hard to bring innovation to a Hitchin landmark. Great support for local produce and charities.

this shop is a delicatessen and tearoom. halsey's is widely renowned for its tempting array of traditional cooked meats, pies and cheeses and for its delicious range of preserves, relishes, sauces and olive oils. they only sell fresh local fruit and veg (which i think is brilliant) supporting as many local farmers and producers as possible. they sell many fine foods and have a wonderfull catering service. the tearoom sells all home made meals, made using all local ingredients. they also have take away sandwiches and salads. its an amazing little shop, just what every community needs. the people who work there are wonderfull very friendly and passionate about waht they do. there is allways somthing new to discover at haleys!
