Only best of Britisg at Ellis's. Honey and Apple cured ham on the bone from their own pigs. Best we've ever had. Home grown pork from their own farm, now being fed on apples..Fantastic!

They offer a wide selection of british source known meats, free range and organic.I'm always impressed with their large variety of other products of good quality such as dairy products, fruit and vegetables and perservatives. The staff are all extremely helpful and friendly and nothing is too much bother. Their Christmas selection of high quality meats are a must especially their organic turkeys. The high street would not be the same without having a reliable friendly butcher such as Ellis's and they are the heart of the community and their popuality is immense, they always appear to be busy!

Not only does Ellis Fine Foods serve great produce but they are a great service to the local community too. The choice of local meat & veg is fantastic, and the quality superb. Lou and his team are always so friendly and give cooking tips too! A big advantage is buying the exact quantity you need to fit your budget - no pre packed goods here. A very satisfied customer for over 15 years. Good Luck you deserve it ! - The Dowlings

Such a polite team of young men at Ellis who know their produce. I have found the quality of the Ellis deli counter superb! If you are able to take a whole leg, they will even make your smoked or unsmoke ham to your own recipe. Also the fresh meats are adictive, all year round. I have even had the Ellis team create a batch of bespoke sausages, simply devine!

If only every town had an Ellis fine food the supermarkets would have a lot of problems. You cannot put a price on the quality of food offered and the major contribution that Lou and his team make to the local community. It does not get better than this shop.

Porridge Porridge Posted 23 Jun 2009 4:29 PM

Lou and his staff make this place a pleasure to visit. Helpful and knolwledgeable staff and nothing is too much trouble - and open on Sundays. We have recommended Ellis Fine Foods to all our neighbours and they now travel here to shop - we cannot believe they did not win last year. My partner is a vegetarian and she also thinks this place is fab as they also sell farm fresh veggies and fruit of excellent quality. Lou is now also rearing his own pigs which he is selling - I tried some chops and sausages last week and they are fantastic. Lou also recommended how to best cook the chops - last Christmas we waited almost an hour to get in as the queue was that long and he still took the time to make up a Beef Wellington while we waited. I cannot recommend this place highly enough - It makes Whitton High Street worth a visit!

Percheron Percheron Posted 13 Jul 2008 7:29 PM

We have being buying our meat from here since moving to the area about 8 years ago and the variety, quality and value of the usual and not quite so usual is second to none. They are very knowledgeable and freindly (but not overly so)and always keen to assist and frequently inspire me to cook something I haven't cooked before. When friends come to visit us now they always make a trip to Ellis Fine Foods to buy some of what we have cooked for them (some of them even buy to take back for thier friends !!). All in all I never thought I would ever become passionate about a butchers shop, but the sausages, the steaks, the beef, the ham, the bacon, the pies, the burgers, the eggs, the pork chops, the barbeque packs, the list goes on are without any doubt the best I have found anywhere. Go there and find out for yourself.

heidipie heidipie Posted 21 Aug 2007 8:44 PM

This butcher's is one of the main reasons that my husband and I bought a house in Whitton-yes really! When we had been house hunting three and a half years ago we went over to Whitton from New Malden and on seeing Ellis's butchers and the fantastic array of meat and the smell of the wonderful barbequed meat we agreed this was the place to live near. Our house is only 7 mins walk away and I am now one of the regulars, and am very happy with the choice and superb quality of the meat on offer. I have never tasted pork chops and roast pork like what I buy in this butchers, it is so sweet and tastes divine. The minty lamb chops as another reviewer said are to die for and a big favourite for me and my husband. The chickens roast up a dream, and the steak well, both the rump and fillet are terrific. In fact since moving to Whitton and shopping at this marvellous butchers we hardly ever go out for a meal, as I much prefer to buy local good meat from a really top notch butcher. I always have a chat and some banter with the staff which I should think brightens up their day as it most certainly does mine. This is a real gem of a shop and as long as it stays here I will stay in Whitton. I think that I have said it all. If you haven't been there start going you will never go anywhere else again.

We love the organic foods and the meat is always good quality, tender and tasty. The sausages taste really meaty, but best of all, is the bacon with a dozen free eggs. What a delight for Sunday breakfast.

Excellent shop and staff!! I have been using this shop for 15 years now and I have always found it to offer high quality, good value and always a great variety of British foods. You can always get advice on cooking and they will provide the cuts of meat to suit your taste. To sum up it is the jewel in Whitton High Street if we did not live around the corner we would make the journey especially to shop at Ellis Fine Foods, they would be worthy winners of this “Food Local Hero” award.

sony254 sony254 Posted 27 Jun 2007 8:03 PM

Firstly, its fantastic to still have a butchers in our local high street, this twinned with the level of satisfaction I experience each and every time I shop there makes Ellis Butchers a fine example of a 'local hero'. The shop is always well stocked, offeirng a variety of products including meat, vegatables and diary most of which are locally produced and organic. The staff are always friendly, helpful and happy to assist.

Tracy Bardell Tracy Bardell Posted 27 Jun 2007 6:38 PM

The shop and staff are always very clean, meat tastefully displayed, nothing is too much trouble for the staff and they are always extremely polite. If I try something new then they even recommend how to cook it.

eejit1 eejit1 Posted 27 Jun 2007 5:20 PM

When Waitrose stopped selling Manor Farm Organic milk Ellis Fine Foods said they would order it in as it was from Dorset where the Childhay organic meat was produced. It is a pleasure to go to the shop every week to collect the milk, choose meat for the week and of course, we can't wait for Lou's home grown runner beans, potatoes and tomatoes. My husband and I always feel that we are treated like special customers and nothing is ever too much trouble - the staff always have a smile. It is a great way to shop.

Porridge Porridge Posted 27 Jun 2007 11:22 AM

We shop in Ellis a couple times a week and we're vegetarians! The milk is great and so are the fruit and veg, eggs, cheese, jams and marmelade. The staff are friendly and polite and it is a real neighbourhood shop with a great atmosphere. Open until 6pm to make shopping after work easier and on Sundays too, what more can you ask for?

Penguin1 Penguin1 Posted 26 Jun 2007 10:44 PM

I have shopped here for over 15 years since my son was a junior butcher there. He has moved on to other employers but I still go back to Ellis because the meat is so good, as is the service, value and the variety of fresh produce. He is still a butcher and can always tell when I serve Ellis' meat. Must be good!

ClareQ ClareQ Posted 26 Jun 2007 9:05 PM

Always helpfull, good value but most important of all local produce and very supportive of British Farmers; supermarkets and politicians take note!

Cliff3 Cliff3 Posted 26 Jun 2007 7:20 PM

Not only are all the butchers here friendly and cheerful, they are also knowledgeable, always ready with advice on how to cook or prepare meat or on which cut to use for a recipe. They also stock a wide range of farm produce and organic foods.

Lyn15 Lyn15 Posted 26 Jun 2007 5:08 PM

Have not shopped in a butchers for nearly 20 years, the animity of picking up a pre wrapped joint etc in the supermarket meant not having to make a fool of my self! Recently fed up with their shoddy offerings I ventured into Ellis my local butchers, found the staff wonderfully friendly and helpful, the produce of which there is a wide variety tastes is not that much more expensive and tastes fantastic and meal times are more of a pleasure and am now a supermarket convert. I have recommended Ellis to family and friends and would urge all to visit and sample their wares! Tesco beware!!!!!

smiler2 smiler2 Posted 26 Jun 2007 5:02 PM

Over the last few years it has become more and more important to me (and others) to purchase local free range organic meat and vegetables. Ellis has responded by supplying exactly that. Their produce is of a far superior quality to anything that I can find in the supermarket and the lads cheerful service makes the whole shopping 'experience' really pleasant. We're very lucky to still have such a good local butchers - so many high streets have lost theirs.

My mum shopped there before me and I loved all the stories she'd come back with alongside the meats. Love the variety - you just can't find it anywhere else. My boyfriend noticed the difference in flavour straight off(he's always had supermarket bought) and he's always pestering me to go back and get something.

Remarks Remarks Posted 24 Jun 2007 9:34 PM

A "traditional" butcher who has developed his business to compete with the supermarkets. High quality food lots of inventiveness, like his own haggis and those great cider and pork sausages, bring them back! Lou often works out front so you can see a crafts man at work doing what a proper butcher should be able to do. The range of vegetables from the farm is also impressive, showing an interesting will to experiment, like his various potatoe types. Great stuff

I have recently moved back to Whitton and my parents always used this place. In fact i distinctly remember as a small boy my mother asking to go an buy some eggs. As i bought the eggs i left the shop to catch up with my mum and dropped the eggs all over the place. Worrying what i should do the friendly staff replaced my eggs, gave me a pat on the shoulder and promised never to say anything to my mum.
