enthusiastic, talented chef, using local fresh ingredients where possible, best bass I have ever had and the proof really is in the pudding! Would recommend to anyone. Stunning!

Whilst on holiday in St Helens for a week, my husband and I ate twice at the St Helens restaurant. Food is excellent, best sea bass I have ever had, puddings to die for and friendly welcoming staff. We could happily have eaten there every night, except we wanted to see what else the Island had to offer.

A super brunch on a wet Sunday morning cheered up our weekend away. Looking forward to returning and sampling the wonderful seafood on offer. Friendly and srumptious scrambled egg with smoked salmon

Knowledgeable very friendly staff and a chef who knows how to buy, cook and serve local produce. As Island residents we are very familiar with the people from whom the chef sources the ingredients. The relaxed setting made for engaging conversation with other diners, (if so wanted)both local and visitors. Staff were also able to give information to locals and visitors about where to purchase produce and on up and coming produce i.e. latest Island cheeses.

The way that local produce is transformed deserves recognition and helps put the IOW alongside London's best in food terms. Always faultless, always excellent!

We have always enjoyed an excellent meal, with all courses living up to our expectations and it's really great to see local producers being supported, with so much of what is on the menu. Desserts are never a disappointment, save a little room for them.

The meal that we enjoyed on Saturday evening was truly superb: fresh, hot and flavoursome without being in the slightest pretentious. The presentation was perfect, service friendly, tables clean and attractive, toilets pristeen. Highly recommended to one and all.

St.Helens restaurant is a fantastic place. Definitely VERY glad we found this place as we go there everytime we're in the area. Mark and the rest of the staff are very welcoming and friendly and always remember their regulars! They're also more than accommodating when it comes to particular dietary requirements requested by their customers, even making something for one of our party that wasnt on the menu when we went there recently. Cant wait for our next visit!

We have been as a family to two delicious brunches at St. Helen's Restaurant and very much enjoyed both occasions, even with a lively 3 year old and a baby! The staff were most helpful in providing extra spoons, serviettes etc for us. NOthing was too much trouble. Can highly recommend to anyone.

St Helens is a lovely little restaurant with a great atmosphere, friendly staff and excellent food - it's lovely to see them supporting local food producers and to know exactly where what you're eating has come from. I always make a trip there when I'm on the Island.

Definitely the culinary highlight of our recent 4 day stay on the island and reason enough to return for another visit. The focus is on great local fresh food, superbly prepared and presented in very pleasant surroundings. The menu selection is just right with something to suit everyone without sacrificing quality for quantity. Do yourself a favour and experience it first hand.

Mark is a darling, relaxed atmosphere. Varied menu - of course it would be using fresh local seasonal food. Good effort all round.

Cannot praise the St. Helens Restaurant highly enough. Local produce - freshly and beautifully cooked and such an imaginative menu. Nice touch that Mark the Chef, Owner, spends time with his customers. Recommending it to all my friends - a must visit.

Mark and his team make going to St Helens a happy occasion ALWAYS. We never had a bad meal there. I think the meat courses are excellent but fish is not far behind and my wife loves fish and is always pleased when I say 'let's go to St Helens!'.

Had a very good meal here to celebrate my mother's 80th birthday. The age of those attending our family party ranged from 10 to 80+. We ALL had the most delicious meal, superbly cooked, served in a most relaxing and hospitable atmosphere. Everyone had the most enjoyable evening and the youngest wants to know when we will be going back there again....... Very soon I am sure!!

Fantastic meal at my local restaurant, the meals are always to a high standard with such attention to detail. The locally caught Seabass was divine. I had a fantastic birthday out with the girls and we'll be back again soon. 10/10

We are lucky enough to live within walking distance of this restaurant. We have eaten there many times for brunch, Sunday lunch and for dinner. Always great food with very friendly staff creating an atmosphere that makes you want to stay. All his suppliers are listed so you feel confident that they do as they say - cook the best of local. If you are on the island visit St Helens you will not be disappointed.

The Isle of Wight now boasts an increasing number of fine restaurants, but in my opinion, this one is up there with the best. The flavours of the dishes, all made with locally sourced Island produce are divine and so well seasoned that I challenge anyone to need a salt pot. Mark's passion for what he believes in shines like a beacon and to cap it all he's a thoroughly nice bloke too! Add a wine list that's got real thought at very good prices and you have one of the best places to eat superbly presented flavoursome food on, not only the Island, but the south coast

My husband and I have visited the St Helens several times; it has become a firm favourite which we regularly recommend to friends and family. In fact our entire family (all 10 of us) are visiting soon to enjoy some of Mark's festive fair. The food is always very tasty and well presented, the service friendly but efficient and the atmosphere very inviting. We love to read the menu to spot the local producers (including the local berry supplier who lives round the corner)and will definitely be returning again and again.

From a Sunday Brunch to a full evening meal this is a first rate Restaurant. The source of all ingredients is openly advertised. Ambience is superb and food is always of the highest quality. For a small village St Helens is blessed with two excellent restaurants.

oggie 1 oggie 1 Posted 24 Sep 2006 3:29 PM

We have stayed in St Helen's three times and love this part of the Isle of Wight. Recently visited the refurbished St Helen’s restaurant and had a fantastic meal. As a veggie there was only one option but very good, with thought and imagination, cauliflower and sorrel soup to start and squash, goat’s cheese and pistachio tart for main. My husband had had the belly pork for starter and skate as main, thoroughly enjoyed them both and all locally sourced produce. Service and atmosphere was faultless, we could not ask for more. If visiting the IOW this should be on your places to eat out.

icdenton icdenton Posted 24 Sep 2006 12:59 PM

I have visited the Island many times and sampled many of the Island's restaurants. Since its refurbishment, however, the St Helens restaurant has become my firm favourite. Lovingly prepared food using the best of local ingredients, great service, a relaxed Bistro atmosphere - who could ask for more? A real hidden gem - thoroughly recommended to all food lovers visting the Island.

What an incredable restaurant this is a oasis of pleasure in the dessert of the Isle of Wight. It does not disappoint. I would describe it as the perfect dining experience. We found this place after mooring in Bembridge harbour and walking up to the village on a cold and wet winter night. Only to be warmed up by the superb food and wine - try it you'll enjoy or I'll eat my hat.

The St Helens sources the highest quality and freshed local produce and this is displayed in the quality of the final dishes. The local producers are name giving providence to the produce and their quality and enable me to source the produce i have enjoyed. The finished dishes demonstate the high quality that can be achived when using local frsh seasonal produce and is an inspiration to any home cook.

At St helens restaurant we strongly believe that you are what you eat! We source as many ingredients locally as possible and my two chefs and I work within the seasons with our menus. We make our own ice cream using island cream, bake bread with island ground flour, and currently have various local farmers suppling us with lamb, pork, bacon, salad leaves sausages, chicken, duck, eggs to name but a few.We also source our seafood from two of the nominees on the island region: captain stan and the best dressed crab who both share our passion for great local food.

chef421 chef421 Posted 19 Aug 2006 10:55 AM

The atmosphere is superb and you are always made to feel special on every visit. The food is fantastic and it is reasurring to know that all of the produce used is of a high standard, from local producers. It is a real taste explosion to eat here!!

this restaurant sources local produce from most, if not all of the suppliers that have been nominated for this award! even as far as making bread from IOW flour, not only that the quality of presentation and relaxed surroundings makes this restaurant my favourite place to eat on the IOW.
