Carlo's Ices & Tea Rooms

Specialist Provider

Selling: Cheese / Dairy

Old family business founded in 1894. They’ve come a long way since they sold ice cream from a pony and trap. Nowadays, customers can enjoy a range of home made ice creams made freshly everyday, in the more comfortable surroundings of the tea rooms. However, their mobile tradition is still maintained, though suitably modernised to an ice cream van.

I used to ride my pony over there with all the money I owned, and my friends, to buy ourselves an ice cream and a milkshake. & one for my pony too!
There is honestly no place better if you want ice cream, we even went in February last year (although I had the flu for the following week!) - it's a great place, always friendly and just generally lovely people work there!

25yrs ago as a child I used to ride my pony across the forest clutching my pocket money, and knock on their back door. Aways I was given a warm welcome and in addition to my ice cream, my pony was given one too!
These days I can drive there, but my brother, who lives out of the area, always tries to keep a stock in his freezer! It is proper ice cream!

Everyone is always friendly and eager to please. Great homemade cakes by Bev. My favourite is the coffee cake followed closely by the chocolate cake. Its so hard to make a decision when I go there because so much choice and its all so delicious. We found Carlo's by accident about 5 years ago and have been going regularly ever since. Well done Carlo's, you are all great!

I have eaten carlos icecreams since childhood. The icecreams are very good value for money, and the milkshakes, thick, creamy and delicious. The tearooms have been a welcome addition and the food is execellent.

Carlo's is like an oasis in the middle of a beautiful countryside setting. I strongly recommend that you visit and try some of their ice cream 'specials'. You may have difficulty finding it but I'm sure you will enjoy the search and the ice cream makes the effort so worthwhile.

Carlo's makes undoubtably the very best quality ice-cream money can buy. We are extremely lucky that we are only a 20 minute drive away. We have been visiting for over 20 years and family and friends who come to stay always ask "can we go to Carlo's". The service, taste and value for money cannot be beaten. And you are sure to get a warm welcome. Visit them and see, you will definately come back time and time again!

We have been visiting Carlos for at least 25 years and in that time there have been a few changes to the property but the service and quality of the ice cream is still second to none. You are always made to feel special and Tony seems to know everyone!! Our children have been brought up on Carlos ice cream and so have the dogs!!! (They alway give you a cone with a little bit of ice cream for them!!). Certaintly the best ice cream in the world. So keep up the good work.

Well what can i say...delicious ice cream with great service all at a very reasonable price. The ice cream is made on site and when you walk through the door and into the parlour there is always a delicious smell of home cooked food- roast dinners, chocolate cake, apple pie...the list is endless. i have always enjoyed coming here and eating an ice cream in the garden with friends and family, perfection! Carlo's Ices & Tea Rooms definitely deserve to win local food hero.

Our family have been visiting Carlos for over 30 yrs. Some changes have been made along the way since the rickety old benches in the original back garden to Carlos himself directing in traffic on the road-even if they didn't plan on going for an ice-cream!!No-one was ever disappointed.Fantastic family run business that definitely deserves to win a Local Food Hero Award.

Carlos Ices is a family run business which has been going since 1894. It has been passed down through three generations to be currently run by my grandad, Tony donnarumma. I am very proud to be part of this much loved tradition, and when i hear customers saying theyve travelled from miles away just to taste our ice cream it reminds me how special carlos really is. Everyone involved in Carlos is extremely passionate and is proud to be a part of it.

We visit Carlo's as often as we can, with the kids of SALTERNS PLAYSCHEME, a summer playscheme for up to 50 special needs children from 8 to 19. Carlo's is a favourite of all our children and no wonder. The Ice cream is the best I've ever tasted, you always get a smile and a chat and they are excellent with our somewhat challenging children. They should win on all counts. Trevor. Chairman. Salterns Playscheme.

For as long as I can remember my parents regularly took me to Carlo's, as every member of our family like the delicious Italian ice cream so much! Carlo's deserves to win 'local hero' as so much hard work is put into to the excellent quality ice cream and food (I should know I work there)! The ice cream is made freshly every day and is of the best quality! The food and selection of cakes, pies and scones is all HOMEMADE including the delicious Sunday Roasts! The staff are friendly, kind and welcome you with a warm smile! Lucy O’Toole

Carlos is special because it is in the middle of nowhere and people still come from miles around to get an ice cream. Their ice cream is lovely and it is always a pleasure to make a trip out to carlos on a nice sunny day.

Fantastic icecream which is very reasonably priced for a quality product. The tearooms serve some great home cooked meals along with delicious cakes, scones and even beans on toast! The family and staff are always welcoming and the service is excellent. I can remember the icecream van from almost 40 years ago and the icecream is still just as good. Carlos certainly deserve a Local Food Hero Award.

Carlo's have been making their own ice-cream since I was a very small child and have continued to do so ever since. They have their own "ice cream van" service allowing them to reach local communities some distance from their 'tea rooms'. Many memories involve Carlo's; either hearing their unique van tone as they pull into the street, seeing them parked outside the school grounds after a hot summers day of lessons, or even my parents driving me out to their tea rooms as a treat on a weekend. There has always been a friendly face behind the ice cream and the service is always excellent. Along with the fact that they offer such fantastic ice cream, I can't see why they shouldn't be rewarded.
