This company is one of the best I have dealt with. Great products, excellent prices, cheap delivery and a real person at the end of a phone. Excellent.

Fresh food and drink from local producers delivered directly to my door. I can order on line, or by phone, and I can even pay on line. The food is delivered in polyboxes with icepacks to keep it cool so it always arrives fresh. They have a large range of products including organic, ready meals, fish, desserts, meat, veg and much more. Well worth using.

A great alternative to supermarket shopping...... it offers a wide range of products that are realistic in price and excellent in quality, and is a convenient way of supporting local farmers/producers.

They are amazing, they can supply a great service allowing me to support the local economy even though i work and cant get to farmers markets. They have an excellent website which helps you to feel in touch with the local producers. The food is always fresh tasty and different from the standard supermarket fare. Try the lebane dip its truly wonderful!

It's a great way for busy families to buy really good food. I can't always get to farmers' markets and farm shops during my busy week but a few minutes spent online brings a delivery of first class food to my door on a Thursday evening. And always with a cheery smile. Very friendly.... . it almost feels like you are part of their team!

Food Heros at their very best - fabulous fresh produce that is community demand driven and delivered to the door (no matter what the weather is like outside!). A full range of local seasonally produced food for the whole family. Food is cared for and selected to be the very best quality for the customer. Recipe ideas encourage healthy eating (do try Harveys apple cake, yummy!) and also a good balance of indulgency too, making a superb mix to please everyone. Great value for money - you have a feel good factor knowing that real money goes to the farmer.

Perfect for anyone who works long hours but wants to support local food producers. A wonderful choice of produce from vegetables to home made cakes to eco-friendly washing up liquid. And you can still get Bananas and Oranges safe in the knowledge that although their not local, their fair trade. Brilliant Service!!

Great products from local producers, great service from great staff and their website is easy to use. I aim to be supermarket free by the end of this year and Somerset Local Food Direct has gone a long way in helping me achieve my goal. Well done to you all!

I first used Somerset Direct for my Christmas Veg etc, last Christmas '06. It was like Christmas had come early, not only did Santa!! deliver it. I couldn't belive the freshness of the produce and the flavour. I grew up on a Pick your Own farm so I know what proper food tastes like, when strawberries had amazing flavour and aroma, Apples had crunch and crispness. I own a boarding kennels in Bruton, Somerset, I display the SLDF leaflets in the reception and recomend to anyone who will listen. Paula - Bruton.

We have recently moved into Somerset after living in France where we very much enjoyed the availability of good local food in particular from markets and specialist shops. A neighbour recommended SLFD to us and we are absolutely delighted! The website is very easy to use and the service is excellent with a friendly voice on the end of a phone if you need it. The delivery scheme is reliable and food arrives carefully (but not over) packaged in reusable boxes. We are slowly working our way through the range of products on offer but have particularly appreciated the availabilty of good fish and fresh local vegetables. A recommander!

Delicious fresh, local food, delivered to my door by helpful, friendly people, ...and a kindly reminder if I forget to order... brilliant for a busy family who want proper food which hasn't been over-processed, over-packaged and round the world before we eat it!

I have used this business for years now and recommend it to anyone locally. The service and quality of the food is excellent, and allows me not to use supermarkets and to buy locally, which is very important to me.

Great food, great staff, ethical, locally produced, fab variety. You can get everything you want/need (not just meat and veg.....lots of other nice things) and can avoid using supermarkets at all!!

A brilliant one-stop shop to get the best of local Somerset produce, delivered right to your door. The website is very easy to navigate and use. and when I called their helpline, I got a friendly "real person", not some automated machine. Keep up the good work!

newshound newshound Posted 15 Jun 2007 4:38 PM

Great range of produce, much much more than just a 'vegetable box scheme' - in fact the range these guys can deliver is amazing - just like having a combination of the farmers market and an ethical supermarket delivered right to your door! As well as every sort of seasonal veg, you can get every sort of locally produced meat, poultry, fish and game, breads, cakes, jams and chutneys, in fact everything you'd expect to find walking through a farmers market Excellent quality and fresh produce, personal service, can't fault it!

runey runey Posted 13 Jun 2007 1:03 PM

i have ordered from these guys every other week for a year or so now. The food is great quality, and all gets eaten! They are great!!

This company has totally converted my shopping habits. As a relative youngster in my 20's I was becoming more and more disenchanted with supermarket shopping particularly for meat and vegetables which had flown half way around the world. I now buy all my meat and vegetables and other things too from this superb, easy to use, and friendly website, happy in the knowledge that most of it has only come from down the road so to speak! I love coming home from work on a Thursday and finding my big chilled box of goodies! Well done guys and keep it up - I have recommended you to so many people.

georgie020 georgie020 Posted 11 Jun 2007 3:33 PM

The service is outstanding, the food is local and seasonal with many organic choices. I just log on and place an order on the internet by Monday evening and on Thursday it is delivered to my door, even if I am out. The quality of the food is excellent, always fresh. If you ever feel at all that you want to complain as I did once about some potatoes, they just refunded my money and were so helpful and apologetic. This was the only time I have had a problem and I have been buying food from them for a long time. They must win!!

LivingLight LivingLight Posted 11 Jun 2007 3:25 PM

Friendly reliable service and excellent goods. For a pensioner who doesn't want to keep driving around I wouldn't be without them.

I love all the food, supporting local businesses and it comes to me without fail, rain or shine, well packaged and even chilled. Fantastic scheme.

Riverlands Blue Riverlands Blue Posted 11 Jun 2007 8:35 AM

The Somerset Local Food Direct team make ethical shopping easy. We eat fantastic produce, fresh from the producer, with minimum food miles and it is more convenient than a supermarket. The range is fantastic and the prices are competitive when compared with similar supermarket ranges (although it would be difficult to find such a range of local food in any supermarket). We also get to meet some of the producers at the monthly farmers market so it adds to the overall experience. SLFD are just fantastic and this type of scheme should be rolled out nationwide so everyone could experience how easy it is to eat well and reduce your food miles.

It is like choosing the food myself. It is so personal. So easy and quick to order and delivered with a smile. Excellent produce.

ann24 ann24 Posted 09 Jun 2007 10:58 AM

Just brilliant service, great food and it's nice to think that I am supporting local producers and reducing my food miles - why didn't someone think of this before?

jackoli jackoli Posted 07 Jun 2007 9:52 AM

A chance discovery when I picked up a leaflet at a local monthly farmers market. Now we can eat farmers market food all the time - not just once a month. Brilliant service. Helpful staff who always go the extra mile to make sure everything's ok. And when it isn't a credit or replacement is readily offered. What more can you ask?

DJTMCFC DJTMCFC Posted 05 Jun 2007 9:17 AM

Outstanding quality and friendly reliable service, they'll even get in items if you request them. Veg prices compare very favourably with supermarkets and while meat can be more, its worth every penny. Its also so much better than a box scheme because you order exactly what you want, and its great knowing its all locally and ethically grown/reared. Even my children are converted they won't eat a supermarket banger now - one in the eye for Tesco!

kti kti Posted 04 Jun 2007 8:20 PM

I have been using this delivery service for years and it has never let us down. We lead a busy life and it has allowed us to pick the best from farmer's market from the comfort of our own living room. The produce are always of excellent quality but you can try ten different types of bacon and potatoes from 4 different farms before you settle on a favourite. The have embraced today's market place and provide a modern delivery service with a personal touch. I am very grateful and impressed. The people at Somerset local food direct are my heroes.

isaroni isaroni Posted 04 Jun 2007 7:25 PM

They provide everything I need in their box scheme, all locally sourced, lovely and fresh and delivered to my door. The service is excellent and allows me to support local farmers, bakers, butchers, dairy producers, fishmongers etc. It's a delight to serve my holiday guests with the best Somerset has to offer.

Pressmead Pressmead Posted 04 Jun 2007 5:55 PM

Nothing is too much trouble for the helpful people who make SLFD a really great shopping experience! I am not able to throw money around on all organic food, but with this business I am able to eat better quality food than I ever thought possible, and . I am supporting local farmers too, which is what really pleases me. I was horrified to read that much of the organic produce I was buying before was actually from abroad, even when our own was in season - far from being green, I wasn't doing any good for either our planet or my health! Now I have veg that actually tastes of something, is top quality, and doesn't cost the earth, in more ways than one. I can also have ethically reared meat, so my conscience is eased about not being vegetarian. I really cannot recommend SLFD highly enough, as they are always on the end of the phone if I need to ask questions.

Somerset Local Food Direct provides the best quality local food direct to your door. The range of items available means that you can get everything you need from your weekly shop without having to resort to the local supermarket. The ability to see where every item is produced means that I can choose not to buy an item if it comes from too far away, and having the facility for it to be delievered even when you are not at home is unbeatable. Unlike "box schemes" I can choose exactly what I want every week from vegetables, meat, fish, deli products, bread, drinks and Ecover products. I love the fact that I can buy excellent food, support local producers and reduce my own car journeys. These really are local food heroes!

nicky talbot nicky talbot Posted 01 Jun 2007 8:28 PM

Not only does Somerset Local Food Direct sell the usual boxes of veg, it sells organic meat, fish and has a deli. You can buy bread, in fact anything that you may need. You can do your weekly shopping online, and have it delivered to your door with the full confidence of knowing where all your produce comes from. A fantastic addition to the suppliers that exist around the south west.

This delivery service completes the sustainable circle. I've reduced by supermarket shopping by 80% - yes 80%. I have to place my order on Monday and its delivered on Thursday. Since I work outside Wells, I can't make it to the Farmers' Market on a Wednesday but I can buy anything that's available from any of Somerset's Farmers' Markets through this website. And I know that the vegetables will have been in the ground on Tuesday and they can be on my plate on Thursday. I don't drive to the supermarket; I don't use any packaging (the polystyrene boxes are returned each week); my food pound is spent only with local producers. And I feel great!

RosieI RosieI Posted 16 May 2007 11:49 AM

At last a company providing organic and free range produce at reasonable prices! The website and customer service are uncomplicated but efficient and the personal touches make it a pleasure not to go to the supermarket!

It's so easy to order on-line and all the food is freshly picked or prepared. Delivery is so personal- the boxes have my first name on them! Its nice to know that you are eating food grown or produced locally and that you are doing your bit for the environment at the same time by cutting down on all of those food miles.

What a joy it has been to have found SLFD an internet search! Fresh, local extremly tasty food delivered to my door, and it's mainly organic or pesticide free and free from artifical flavourings and preservatives. Even the non food items are invironmentally friendly. Reducing household chemicals has to be the way forward for improved health and wellbeing.

Naranja Naranja Posted 20 Aug 2006 1:33 PM

SLFD is quite simply a life saver - so much more than a box scheme with great ready meals, flour, cleaning products, milk, yoghurts, meat, veg, bread. Having food that is produced locally and avoiding large supermarkets every week is of great satisfaction. Roger, Linda and the gang are lovely people!

Jess H Jess H Posted 15 Aug 2006 10:59 AM

To have fresh LOCAL food delivered each week is a joy! Knowing that veg has been picked just hours before and meat reared and produced within miles of where we live allows us to "Walk our talk". The source of non-local products are given, allowing us to make decisions regarding delivery miles. Service is always friendly and efficient. Offering organic, non-organic and "non-organic but chemical-free" is the best of worlds.

sarena sarena Posted 15 Aug 2006 8:41 AM

Not just a box scheme in the fruit and vegetables sense. Check out the meat, bread and dairy produce. The local wine is fantastic (try the organic white-knockout).

Because you can order it online and it's delivered too your doorstep ready to pop in your cupboards and fridge - it's very easy. It's also great because the products are reared, produced, grown and sourced in Somerset - so you're buying from local producers and the products haven't travelled miles. Great connection with local producers. Great service too - very personal.
