I buy a lot of my meat from the Stocks Farm stall in Stoke Newington Farmer's Market every Saturday The meat is excellent, I've never had a bad piece. And ask for grandad's sausages too! I also like the eggs and apples in season. I feed the lamb to guests as a special treat

I fully agree with all the previous reviews. We're big carnivores and everything we get from these guys is great (including the odd bag of sweetbreads). The air dried ham is gorgeous but there's never enough. We had some Daylesford Organic sausages this week and they just didn't compare. A real treat recently was the spit roast lamb - mmmmmmm. Being from a colonial farm background ourselves, its really nice to be able to talk to them about how they do what they do (although the pressure from the queue means we never get to chat for long). Anyone who uses Fergus Henderson's 'Nose to Tail' cookbook scores big points with us as well. Real food from great guys.

I have one fear about writing this review. If anyone reads this and decides to check the stall out I may miss out on my food for the week! I have tried several different local farmer's market stalls and these guys are the best. They provide a real butcher's service, cutting meats to your requirements and giving cooking suggestions. The quality of the food is also without peer. The tastiest chicken in the UK and brilliant sausages. Good luck trying to get their smoked streaky bacon. I once saw someone ask for all they had while I was waiting in line.

If provenance was everything then Stocks Farm produse would rule the world. What these boys don't know about food and animal husbandry isn't worth knowing. They are far more than just farmers. They bring a wealth of real-life catering experience to their enterprise and they almost care more about their animals than is strictly healthy! Its a diverse farm but they are by no means jacks-of-all trades. They are masters of their domain.

Brothers Chris and Iain Learmonth from Stocks farm in Essex sell their organic chicken, eggs, lamb, pork and apples in season at the Stoke Newington Farmers market in London every Saturday. Their home-made sausages -made to their grandad's recipe - are amazing - their pigs' feed is supplemented by windfalls from their organic orchard - and it certainly makes the sausages and the bacon taste good. The chicken comes from an organic flock that spends most of the day scratching around the orchard, the eggs are delicious and the chicken really tastes of chicken. Chris and Iain have built up the farm from scratch in an area where most farmers have given up in the face of rising land prices..They work incredibly hard but are always friendly and happy to talk about their farm to the customers. Iain is always experimenting with new sausage recipes but his most recent triumph is his Suffolk air dried ham - which is basically his version of Parma ham - made from his pigs - it tastes incredible -melts in the mouth. Chris and Iain are real local food heroes - they never get publicity - they don't have a PR machine but they do produce the most amazing food - and we are lucky to have them!
