View all reviews (24)We have just started supplying the Rhyd Country House with our award winning free-range eggs and decided to try their food for ourselves and we were not disappointed. We were made to feel very welcome and the food and service was exceptional. Nice to see that local suppliers like us are being supported.
Our Group Gathered, chatted and settled in to the restaurants homely feel, then the food arrived, and silence came, as our eyes and mouths tasted the real deal...This is what all restaurants should treat their guests to. Its a high skill to bring out such taste and flavour. highly recommended.
On visiting Rhyd Country House Restaurant for my Father's Birthday, we were made to feel very welcome. The food which is all produced locally, was exeptional and reasonably priced. We run a holiday village in the area and have no hesitation in sending our guests there for a relaxed and memorable night. Highly Recomended.
My husband and I live in the Midlands and have travelled widely. We have stayed at this hotel three times now and it is very unusual for us to make that many return visits to any hotel. Although the area is pleasant and restful, the main reason for repeated visits is to enjoy the consistently superb cuisine prepared and served there by Nigel and Michelle who take a pride in using local produce. I wish they were nearer to our home so that we could use their Wishing Well restaurant more frequently. We booked a fourth visit a few days ago and we are so looking forward to another few days at Rhyd. Nigel and Michelle are great hosts, very welcoming and I wish them continued success with their lovely hotel and very fine restaurant.
Great food at a reasonable price, why wax lyrical when everything was just superb !
I work in the local town of Cardigan and my work mates and I have been to the Rhyd many times for a meal. What a wonderful experience! The food is absolutely divine, nothing around the area can beat it. Nigel and Michelle are the most welcoming of hosts, nothing is too much trouble for them. When you walk in you can feel the friendly and welcoming atmosphere which instantly makes you feel relaxed, ready to enjoy the night of nights.
I love the fact that local produce is being used, and cooked to reflect the best in Wales.
Peaceful and beautiful surroundings, excellent service with a smile, first class cuisine using quality local produce - what more do you need!
An absolute gem in an area of Wales not blessed with high quality restaurants. Fresh ingredients, superbly presented, at reasonable prices.
Small intimate restaurant but big on welcome. Food varied and excellent, served tastefully.
We went here for our honeymoon in july last year, and plan to go again for our anniversary. Best food ever tasted from the area, and not expensive for what you get. The lamb chops melted in your mouth, the mash was smooth and slid down easliy. In the morning when we had breakfast, there was a choice of any combination of a full english, so you could have a bacon roll with an egg, or egg on toast etc. The best part though they made a proper cuppa. Some of the more posh restaurants in the area foget about the small things, Nigel and his wife don't.
The Rhyd offers superb food at its freshest. We are regular visitors, not just on special occasions, as any excuse will do! A special toast to Nigel and Michelle for doing us proud again on Fathering Sunday.
Rhyd is by far the best place I have found to eat in Ceredigion. There are many restaurants in the surrounding area but Rhyd has the X factor! The welcome is genuine and warming. One is made to feel very 'special' and nothing is too much trouble. The food is consistently outstanding using fresh local produce. It is definitely my top choice - I cannot recommend it highly enough.
What a fantastic meal we had here on Saturday night. I'd organised a joint wedding anniversary and 60th birthday celebration and our group of 21 had the run of the restaurant. From the moment we first visited to discuss our numerous needs/likes/dislikes etc I knew that Nigel and Michelle immediately understood what we wanted. On the evening we couldn't have been made more welcome and the service throughout was exceptional. And what can I say about the food - all delicious and perfectly executed. Nigel takes great care to source locally produced ingredients and cooks them all to perfection. We will most definitely be going back to the Wishing Well at the first opportunity. Thank you both for making the evening so memorable. This place deserves to be on the map - it is the best restaurant by far in the area.
Excellent food, local fresh produce used.
This is a Country House Hotel at its best. Small, friendly and with great personal service. The rooms were lovely and the food was superb. The best of local produce, beautifully cooked , without needing to be 'clever' or 'cutting edge'. At last a decent sausage in Wales! Well done to Nigel & Michelle - this is a fledgling enterprise that well deserves its local reputation - may it go from strength to strength.
We have just returned from a stay of three days at this lovely hotel. Having stayed at numerous hotels on business and holidays (including some famous ones) in many countries over many years we have to say that this one is special. In fact we have never wanted to write a review before but Rhyd Country House has qualities deserving of comment. The hotel is owned by Nigel and Michelle who were very welcoming and attentive. Their children were great too. Nigel's local food choices and presentation were the best we have ever experienced in any hotel or restaurant - and we are choosy. We had fresh local crab, fresh sea bass, fresh scallops. They were superb - and the local fillet steak was cooked to perfection. In fact we have already booked another stay later in the year. Michelle made sure the rooms were kept to a high standard of cleanliness and nothing was too much trouble. We enjoyed every minute at Rhyd Country House and, in our opinion, this hotel deserves to succeed and to be at the top end of the Local Food Hero competition.
Rhyd Country House is a lovely family run Hotel and Restaurant in the village of Blaenannerch, near the coastal resort of Aberporth. I'm working in the area and staying at the hotel and after the stress of a hard day's work, it's nice to come back to the haven of peace and tranquillity that is Rhyd Country House. It's a regular "home from home", where you're always made to feel welcome. Whether you're chilling out in the Pit Stop Bar with a drink, or relaxing in the comfy lounge with a coffee (or a drink) after eating in the Restaurant, or taking a stroll around the lovely gardens (with or without a drink), this place is full of ambiance, just take a look at their website. The Wishing Well Restaurant uses fresh local produce and the food is consistently cooked to a high standard. There's a varying menu for everyone's taste, whether it's fish (fresh locally caught salmon and sea bass), steak (that you don't need a steak knife to cut), with plenty of fresh local vegetables (such as carrots that taste like carrots), rounded off with one of the tempting desserts or a selection of local award winning cheeses. The food is so good, I eat here most evenings.
they were wonderful to our children and this made the whole experience incredibly enjoyable not to mention the fantastic food!
The food was excellent, all fresh produce and simply done. Very welcoming and great service.
excellent food, excellent service, excellent hosts, every time.
Rhyd hotel has excellent food, nothing can compare to it locally. The standards of presentation and the care taken in the service is extremely high. This is definately the place to go.
Rhyd Country House Hotel has the best food around ceredigion, everything is fresh produce and the service is excellent. I'm on a Gluten free diet and eating out can be difficult with limited selection, but at Rhyd I could eat about 95% of what was on the menu. I highly recommend this restaurant.
http://www.rhydcountryhouse.co.uk/ We discovered Rhyd Country house last year - we live locally and try to visit all the restaurants. This is easily the best: the friendliest and most welcoming. The food is uniformly excellent - in our opinion the best in the area. We certainly haven't been to any other restaurant since discovering this one. Nigel, the chef, takes pride in choosing the finest locally-sourced and seasonal ingredients and cooks them sensitively and with respect. My wife is extremely particular about her food and has found no complaints with Nigel's cooking. His wife, Michelle, is a lovely warm person and always makes us feel welcome. They're only a small outfit, and not nearly as well known as they deserve to be: there are a number of bigger and better known hotels in the area, but none that serve better food, or have finer service.
