Owned by acclaimed chef, Mark Baumann, Baumann’s Brasserie is a relaxed place in which to enjoy the highest of quality. For lunch perhaps treat yourself to artichoke soup followed by roasted chump of English lamb with crushed apples and Calvados. For dinner, diners can choose from the offerings on the Billingsgate Best fish and seafood menu. All the ingredients are chosen with care and are, where possible, free-range.

View all reviews (57)Enjoying a gorgeous chocolate-box village location, in the heart of Essex, this gorgeous little restaurant has a wonderfully imaginative menu incorporating all that’s best in fresh, local produce. The food is an exquisite mix of local and unusual including a regular Billingsgate Best selection which changes daily. Locally corn-fed chicken, Clacton prawns and home-made fudge (made in the village) all vie for the Essex vote!
We often eat out and have enjoyed meals at Baumann's for the last 10 years - never disappointed and never eclipsed by anywhere else - our favorate establishement
Everything about "Baumann's Brasserie" is SUPERB - the food, the staff, the ambience, value for money. I could go on and on but, in three little words it's "SIMPLY THE BEST!!" We love it!!
Locally-sourced ingredients take pride of place on the menu in this wonderful little brasserie. Where else would you find 'Clacton Cocktail' (aka a Tiger Prawn Cocktail) rubbing shoulders with Foie Gras and Perigourd Truffles!

Staff always friendly and informal. Food always very imginative. As someone else has posted ..you just have to trust the choices Mark makees , as they always seem to work.
This is the only place I would drive 2hrs to just to go and eat. The menu is fun, always has new ideas and offers great value for money. Teh food is cooked to perfection and the restuarant itself oozes atmosphere.

Fantastic place. Food glorious and staff very helpful. I even received a recipe from mark when I loved a pudding. Made it for my village hall over 60's lunch - everyone raved over it. Daphne

Tried all the so called POSH restaurants in London but for brilliant food well varied and presented, value for money ,you can't top Baumanns Staff absolutely superb. Wonderful restaurant

First of all,the atmosphere is just right. It's like eating at afriend's house but the friend just happens to be a first class chef. It's cosy ,relaxed and the service is unobtrusively sharp - not athing is left to chance.The menu is varied , imaginative and oh so elegant yet robust. The desserts are delicious you just have to put off the diet for another day. As a veggie,I thoroughly enjoyed me filo tartof Med. veg.My Camra husband even had REAL ALE !!!Amost memorable experience during our weekend stay in Essex. We have some excellent retaurants in Wales but Baumann's is now on our list for a return visit even if it means coping with the M25 again!
When looking for good food and service combined you will have to go a long way to better this Restraunt. The menus are creative, the food is served artistically and tastes as good as it looks. Food doesnt get better than you will expierience here in this Essex sleepy village. Go there, this exeptional eating expierince awaits you.

I live and work in London. At weekends I travel out with my wife to the Country. I have been using Baumanns For 10 years and adore the place like no other. It cant be beaten for food, service and originality. Some of the creations are so off base you just have to trust them and try!. Another Baumanns in town please. My wife reckons Baumann is a hunk!

The service - Impeccable The food - delicious, well presented and ample VFM - Extremely.. The atmosphere is wonderful the staff are not only accomodating and friendly they can hold a conversation too!. Well worth visiting .. and keep an eye out for Mark himself. What a chef!
