Black Cat Cafe

I've just been bullied by Mo to do this but she's right, we should all be supporting a small independent cafe like Black Cat. It is just so right - small, comfortable, intimate, the staff are friendly and chatty especially when you become a regular and sometimes Nancy even lets you lick the bowl when she's baking - her lemon curd is fabulous. Even on the rare ocassion when they get something wrong it is easy to forgive because so much is right. Keep up the good work!

Why has everyone stopped voting! We need to make sure that Black Cat wins or at least comes within the top 3! There has never been another place like this. Everything is made by Nancy and Gina: all the cakes, biscuits and that fab chocolate brownie; all the fillings for the panini none of this buying buckets of fillings in bulk full of additives and preservatives; the salads so inventive; great smoothies and the coffee - I know that Nancy spent a year working out her blend and that she buys the beans green and roasts them. Organic milk in the coffee, organic soya milk at NO extra charge! We need more places like this so come on all Black Cat customers and regulars VOTE!!

This cafe just has it all. The cakes are to die for - imaginative, fresh and melt in the mouth. It also has excellent salads, paninis and a menu to suit everybody. The service is friendly and the atmosphere is wonderfully relaxed. Whether you're by yourself, with a group, with children - everyone is made to feel welcome. A real jewel.

Nancy brought her baking and restaurant knowledge from New Zealand and it shows! A wonderful place and the best French toast I've ever had outside Ann Arbor Michigan, which wins regular James Beard awards!!

Inventive lunch options and killer cakes. Good hot coffee, beans roasted on the premises.

So many have said it about the food and the ambience (I'm not a cake person but I love almost everything they bake here). But Black Cat also breathes life into an area of Mill Road that is otherwise utterly dire, so thank you!

beautiful coffee and exciting sweets and savouries. and really friendly atmosphere. i go there almost every morning! i heard a rumour the owner uses recipes from medieval cookery books occasionally--is that where the lemon and sweet basil cakes are from? yum. black cat is purrrrrrfect!

An amusing message board draws you into a unique cafe of the highest order. Fantastic dining combined with the friendliest service. An innovative menu delivers taste and satisfaction on a plate. My mornings simply can't start without a visit! That original coffee taste and a greedy spy at the cakes I might want to nibble later. Yum yum!

Atmosphere is great, music is great, coffee is great, panini are great but the cakes are out of this world!

Awesome selection of food and drinks and cakes AND they'll make your sarnies to order. Excellent!

Black Cat Cafe. Grand place to work, a great place to visit. It's such pleasure working for a cafe with an amazing reputation and a beautiful location. Everyone is so close that works there which makes it so special. i feel so proud to be apart of something so wondrous.

I agree. This feels like a 'real' cafe not a clone copy of Starbucks with awful badly made coffe. And I do like the little chocolate covered coffee beans you get free with your coffee.

Just fab - nancy has a love affair with good coffee and her cakes really are home made by her own hands - not the pretend "home made" bought in variety. I've been in cafes all over the world and this one is special nay unique. Get there howver you can if you want a taste of heaven!

Grateful Kiwi, I totally agree with you - there's nothing like a piping hot flat white and a bluebery muffin to start the day! The only thing better is coming in for Nancy's fantastic cakes after work. The staff are just as wonderful as the cakes, and one is always greeted with a smile and diligent and friendly service! :-)

Yes, the cakes are fantastic - how is is possible for one person to bake so many different ones! But for me, discovering somewhere that does a flat white is what makes this place superb. A real kiwi cafe in the land of pretty mundane ones.

It's not only the cakes that make this place special - though they are wonderful - but you can always get a great coffee here. It's made with their own blend of freshly roasted beans. This cafe is probably the best in Cambridge!

Nancy's homemade cakes makes this cafe special all baked fresh every morning - her cherry and marzipan muffins are to die for! All ingredients are organic and their menu is endless. Nothing is too much for them and you always get service with a smile. Until you've eaten at the Black Cat Cafe you haven't had the best!
