Legges of Bromyard

Butcher

Selling: Bread / Bakery, Cheese / Dairy, Drinks, Fish & Shellfish, Game, Home-Cooked Dishes, Meats, Poultry, Preserves, Fruit & Veg

The people at Legges of Bromyard have their own farm and source much of their meat from there. What isn’t sourced from their land is supplied by other local farms. In addition to their meat, available here is a wide range of poultry, game, fish, bread, dairy products, drink, fruits and vegetables. They sell a selection of home-cooked meals and pies, and a popular option is their steak and ale pie – the steak is sourced from their cattle and the ale is from a local brewery

Shopping at Legges of Bromyard is an absolute delight. The fresh meat, cooked meats, home cooked pies etc. are all top quality and absolutely local. The vegetables, bread, all deli items including wine, beer and cider are also all locally sourced. The staff are always polite and efficient. The shop just seems to get better every time I visit.

Always a friendly welcome. Staff very helpful and able to advise on choice of cuts if required. Excellent range of products at reasonable cost. Locally sourced and traceable which is very reassuring in this day and age.

My young family and I moved from London at the same time as Anthony Legge opened his shop. My children had loved Shortwood organic farm from tiny and I could be assured that the animals from there were happy and healthy! It seemed typical country life that Legges butcher was linked. Fantastic organic food, a great asset to Bromyard and town shopping, producing what we all want healthy, uncontaminated food. The staff are fantasic - even when the winter temperature in the shop drops below zero and they serve in wooly hats! Well done you all.

Locally owned, staffed and supplied, this is the sort of shop where everything is so good that you go in for 1 pork chop, and leave with a basket full of assorted goodies!Excellent quality, beautifully displayed, and knowledgable, smiley staff.

We travel a 50 mile round trip to fetch our meat, and have friends eagerly awaiting an invitation to barbeques and meals purely down to the quaility of the meat. The ambiance in the shop is excellent and staff friendly and extremely helpful.

Anthony Legge runs the most fantastic bucher shop, in fact it is more than just a butchers shop. Anthony strives to offer the highest quality products at all times. All products are fully traceable and beef and lamb comes from my fathers farm. The blackboard details where and when the animal was born and slaughtered, ear number, etc. Anthony's home made products e.g. pies are truely wonderful. Legges of Bromyard is the perfect example of what a butcher shop should be like. I wouldn't buy my meat anywhere else!

The meats, cheeses etc are all excellent quality, but the friendliness and service is perfect. I recently bought some cooked meats for lunch, and on asking for just one small slice of ham for my granddaughter's roll, I was told "You can't pay for that, no charge!" Andrea

High quality local meat plus wide a range of pies and sausages. The staff are helpfull, cheerful and very good-looking!

Ross 4 Ross 4 Posted 01 Aug 2006 8:27 AM

High quality meat sourced locally, properly hung. Many other products - eggs, cheese , preserves &c. - from the area around Bromyard. Fish delivered from Cornwall. Pies, sausage rolls, quiches &c. cooked on the premises. Friendly and knowledgeable service. And soon a move to larger air-conditioned premises in the town with easy parking. Anthony had only recently opened when I became a customer 5 or so years ago. I had been recommended several butchers in the area and noticed Legges by chance but have rarely bought from anywhere else.

What a pleasure it is to enter this shop. The staff make one feel welcome and nothing is too much trouble. Needless to say the quality is without question and with its use of local produce it has been a great asset to Bromyard. Keep it going.

Anthony is reaping the rewards of his innovative approach to retail in the sleepy market town of Bromyard. Once a simple butchers shop, Anthony has grown and developed his business to offer a 'delicatessen' style shop with a wide range of locally produced meats, cheese, biscuits, cakes, fruit juices and much more. Low on food miles, tastier, healthier and with far less unnecessary packaging, we are keen to suport local businesses that recognise what their customers want and provide it with a smile. Well done to Anthony and his delightful staff!!

What a fantastic shop, the staff are so friendly and helpful nothing is too much trouble. I have never had any meat that I was not completely satisfied with, and I am not the easiest to please.Although I have family just outside Bromyard, I travel well over an hour every week to fetch my meat. That says it all does it not.

The meats in this shop are so much better and tastier than supermarket stuff. The range of produce is always very good and I've never had any duff stuff from here. The home produced burgers are lovely, and very imaginative ! Equally, the seasonal game and Xmas meats are a favourite. As it is all sourced locally, you have confidence that the standards of care for the animals are very high - just check the blackboards behind the counters and you know who raised them and where - its not just an anonymous chunk of rubbish from a factory farm. A very busy shop, the staff are always responsive, helpful and cheerfull. I have had to check the bill on more than one occasion, not because its too high, its just such staggeringly good value ! Quite simply, I don't shop for meat at any other shop now.

GilesB GilesB Posted 29 Jul 2006 1:09 PM

Enthusiatic, dedicated and knowledgable staff with a real pride in what they do. Proper service, fair prices and excellent quality foods. In a world of pre-packed, tasteless, supermarket domination, its good to know that there is somebody keeping alive the tradition of quality butchering. Vote for this shop!!!!

We are lucky to have Anthony and his staff in our little town, all his meat produce is sounced even the home made burgers. Local pickles, cheese, cakes and meringues all this is in one little shop, and the queues on a Saturday morning start around 8.20!

This is so much more than just a butcher's shop - more like a complete delicatession and farmer's market under one roof. Friendly, knowledgeable service, top quality food mostly locally sourced.

Fisle Fisle Posted 22 Jul 2006 10:19 AM

The quality of all its products, the friendly service of a wonderful staff and value for money mark Legges as truly outstanding.

The olives stuffed with garlic are the greatest ever. Oh- and the garlic gloves on their own. Lovely staff and great for Bromyard to have a really good food shop.

REDSPOONEY REDSPOONEY Posted 21 Jul 2006 3:09 PM

Friendly, helpful staff. All foodstuffs sourced locally where poss. A list on the wall tells customers where pickles etc were made locally. There is always a board on which it lists which farm meat comes from, when it was born, slaughtered, how long hung etc. Fresh fish every Thursday. Free range pork and eggs from the family's chemical free farm ( eggs are organic). It is the only butcher that I would trust to feed my family. Even as a non meat eater I feel assured that the animals have had the best life possible. Nothing is too much trouble for them. If they don't have it they will get it.

Suzi 2 Suzi 2 Posted 20 Jul 2006 2:39 PM
