Farm shop

Selling: Cheese / Dairy, Game, Meats, Poultry

Full traceability is the key to Harkers Farm Shop, which sells its own beef and lamb, plus pork and poultry from local farms. As a licensed dealer in game, the majority comes from local shoots in the Vale of Belvoir, and there is a large selection of bacon as well as sausages from a specialist sausage maker.

Christmas dinner in a hamper, ready to collect on Christmas eve, or any other time of year that you wish to place an order. Lovely, helpful butchers as staff that will cut you a peice of meat or chops to your requirements, or fetch a kidney straight from the animal that you can see hanging in the cold room, with lively chat to keep you amused, while they fill your order. You can see by the colour of the beef that it has been matured, and it's all reared on the farm. They also have an animal corner so that as parents we can introduce our children to the 'cycle of life' that is animals in a field to good food on a plate.

Oustanding quality of produce at reasonable prices and very helpful and accommodating staff.

Michekb Michekb Posted 12 Jun 2008 11:24 AM

The staff are always friendly and accommodating. The produce is first-rate and there is a selection of farm animals which keep my son fascinated for ages. There is also sufficient parking space for the patrons. We had a rib-roast for Xmas dinner 2006, which was succulent and full of flavour, and very reasonably priced. It's definitely worth the drive out of Nottingham to get there.

Outstanding quality of food; meat cut to preference and perfection; fresh farm veg boxes to order. This week's butterfly leg of lamb had visitors from two different continents praising its quality, texture and taste. Also, the mixed grill packs they sell for the barbecue are fantastic value.

A few years ago I ate the most delicious Lincolnshire sausages I've ever tasted in my life at the Anchor Inn in Nether Broughton. The landlord was happy to give me the address of the farm shop they were bought from - and that's how I was lucky enough to first come across TD Harkers & Sons. We'd become sick of buying bland, tasteless supermarket meat and so were delighted by the wonderful, fresh, local produce sold by the friendly TD Harkers' staff. We became regulars and now always buy our meat there. It's also great to find little seasonal extras, like sweet local strawberries and blue button mushrooms. But the true pièce de résistance for me will always be their Lincolnshire and thick pork sausages. They're a real taste of England.
