York Beer and Wine Shop

Cheesemonger

Selling: Cheese / Dairy, Drinks

Owner Jim Helsby reckoned cheese and beer were appropriate partners so he began keeping mainly unpasteurised farmhouse cheeses alongside some 250 bottled beers. Whether it's ewe's milk Berkswell, mature Old Amsterdam or a throat searing Cabrales from northern Spain, he knows his cheeses, nurtures and cares for them. The beer connoisseur can rummage along shelves of wild yeast, Belgian monastery, stone-brewed and Yorkshire Black Sheep.

Great cheeses from all over the UK and further. If it's excellent cheese, they will have it. Wonderful beer and 'own brand' wine too. Lots of helpful advice and knowledge and friendly staff too. Just a great place to do your local shopping.

We love having this place as our 'local'. Even though it's mainly the draft beers we go for, (one regular, one guest which changes with the wind!) the bottled selection is mind boggling, and they also sell excellent bacon for that all-important hangover cure in the morning!
