Stephen Taylor has a nice line in ironic carrier bags. One slogan is 'The Best Thing Since Sliced Bread' and he's right to shout about his fabulous little bakery in Bondgate, now expanded into the two shops next door. His other slogan is 'Baking with integrity' and his bread is given time and care, free of additives and improvers. The end result is superb: characterful, chewy, flavoursome loaves of sour dough, rye bread, French sticks, seed bread, tomato bread, fragrant herb bread, multigrain, and Sicilian. Shepherdless pie and a spinach and ricotta lasagne are among a range of vegetarian savouries and the cake list takes in brownies, flapjacks, cherry genoa, parkin and everyone's favourite, cranberry and walnut cake.

This bakery is a health hazard - it is impossoble not to be tempted by the the mouth-wateringly tasty breads, quiches, cakes, pasties, scones..... - and always served by helpful, friendly, efficient staff. My wasteline has increased 2 inches since moving to Otley - can I demand compensation? Gypenheimer

An amazing range of breads, plus other things such as pies, pasties etc all under one quirky roof (although the shop is about to expand. Bondgate is one of the many excellent independent shops in Otley.
The Bondgate bakery offers the most amazing selection of breads and pastries. The breads are wonderful, the pizza slices are mouthwatering and the cheese pasties are absolutely overwhelming; mature cheese, onions and the most delicate hint of mustard to lift the flavour. If you want to try something different, then buy a pot of hummous which tastes of chick peas, tahini, lemon and garlic and enjoy it with a fresh baked focaccia. The best bakery I have ever been to.
