Several others have said it already but it's worth repeating: the vegetarian options are FAB! (Plenty for meat-eaters too). Last time I was there I had the chestnut & lentil cottage pie - it was out of this world.
Rhian and Helen are 100% committed to offering locally sourced food and drink. The quality of the food is exceptional and the atmosphere and friendliness makes this local pub stand out from all of the rest. The lack pudding is my absolute favourite. scotty
Living only a few miles away we had intended getting round to trying out the Feathers for a while now. Now we have and are very pleased we did. The black pudding was gorgeous and the lamb justed melted in the mouth. We'll certainly be back again!
Three visits, three superb and different meals. Staff good and choice of drinks was extensive.
Took my wife here for her birthday lunch today. Excellent food, great staff loved the Auld Hemp Ale and the Wheelbirks ice cream. Keep it up and keep it local! mick
The food is created using the finest local ingredients by a genuine enthusiast - there is love in that kitchen and it is apparent in ever plate set in front of you. Happily I live locally - the 'local'adds a goodly % to property prices hereabout!
FANTASTIC! A very warm and friendly atmosphere with well cooked seasonal local produce. Hope to go back soon.
My partner and I visited the Feathers today and thought it was excellent. The menu was varied and sourced locally. We had starters and main's both of which were superb but alas too full to sample a sweet. The staff were friendly and attentive, atmosphere quiet but pleasant and the bill surprisingly modest. We will be returning as soon as possible.
Creative cooking of locally sourced, seasonal produce. The quality is amazing and consistent and the wine list varied and very reasonably priced. This relaxed little establishment has such an unexpectedly large personality, it's a true joy to have it on our doorstep.
My partner and I had promised ourselves a visit after seeing The Feathers on last years Food Hero`s. We were not dissapointed. The mains of locally bred beef rump was cooked to perfection and the staff had no problem changing the chunky chips offered for boiled new potatoes. Served with a side salad and a bowl of asparagus and broad beans the taste was excuisite. For dessert, she who should be obeyed, opted for the bakewell tart and I for the rhubarb and apple crumble with vanilla custard.(it was a refreshing change to find it had not been named creme englaise) These too were top notch, bursting with taste and good portions to boot. The wine list is extensive and the real ales on offer well looked after (I`m an ex publican). A most agreable evening was had by us both and we shall definately call again. Good luck and Best Wishes.
My Wife and i had a wonderful evening. The food is top notch. You can't eat out, in the North East like this, anywhere else. If we were in France this would be typical French bistro, but we are in rural England and this is perfect rustic British food in a rustic British setting.
The food is unbelievably good. Fantastic vegetarian choices; that rarely happens anywhere else! Deserts are sublime which causes many squabbles when trying to taste each others and someone's nabbing a large chunk of heaven off your plate! Brilliant choice of wines and beers - there's something for everyone here. The staff are welcoming and only too happy to please and the atmosphere makes you never want to leave, so cosy. Congratulations on your success - we'll be back.
The Feathers is the hub of the Hedley. So much of village life happens there. Community life revolves around the pub, and with so many rural pubs closing their doors and becoming luxury flats we are very lucky to have a thriving business and centre for our community.
Great pub and restaurant. Dined on Saturday with three farmer friends from Lincs. We had four different starters and main courses, and each was sublime. Washed down with a pint or two of Piddle. Wonderful!!
Superb food, wonderful & friendly service, local produce what more could you ask for??
Good Food, super service, hearty company an interesting choice of beers and wines and a cosy country pub.
This pub has everything you would want combining stunning views, homely atmosphere, superb beers and wines and to top it all food to die for. Heaven on a Hill!!!!
My Local! Great locally sourced food, very good prices and an impressive range of local beers. The food is simply and very well cooked, and the fish we had today was excellent. Good choice of vegetarian food and changes daily.
The Feathers combines all the best qualities of a village local with standards of cooking excellence attracting many visitors. All the dishes are cooked to perfection and the menu is very varied whilst sticking to locally sourced ingredients. Long may it flourish
Great food - best local produce available. Rhian is very particular. Caters for all possible combination of allergies - imagine a lactose fructose intolerant having 5 choices! Food - taste and flavour are out of this world. Beer - excellent well kept local bitters Wine - fab wine list - lebanese wines - what an unusual introduction Cost - Great value for money
The vegetarian options are fantastic. I had hommity pie which was great. You can tell they are serious about food as well as real ale here. I am not sure you get any other pubs like this in Northumberland or even the North East for that matter. This is a very special place that i only tell very good friends about.
There is more than one veggie option on the menu. The veggie food is not the usual mushroom strog, veg lasagne, but something novel and interesting - so refreshing.
Great bunch of locals who make the visitor feel welcome, superb location, add to this the friendly staff, excellent food and range of ales, and that is what makes this a place to visit (regularly).
Brilliant food - well priced and using local produce lovely people very friendly and welcoming and a great location what more could you ask for - do visit !
So many places I've been to only manage one or two in the holy trinity of running a good pub.. The food must be fresh and home cooked, it must be reasonably priced and lastly the atmosphere must be warm and inviting. I am so happy to have found all three in this wonderful little pub. I'd strongly recommend taking the time to enjoy a few hours here and unwind.
The pub is full of history with old photos of the local community. The pub offers four local real ales behind the bar and soft drinks from the region such as Fentiman's and Thorncroft. The menu is where the really special attention is. Chef Rhian sources all local ingredients from small artisan produces and works closely with them to create a daily changing menu that uses the best of the seasonal and local produces that is available to him. He is able to create with very talented skills an interesting and diverse menu that caters for vegetarians and vegans whilst also maintaining a traditional British menu. The menus have a map on the back that list where the ingredients come from with the producer’s details and information. The menu also lists where key ingredients come from and all food is prepared and cooked in house from the bread to the mushy peas. Traditional Northumbrian dishes are also served with great detailed attention paid to researching classic old and forgotten recipes. The serious about food will delight in what is being done here and they have a reason to be very proud of their achievements. This place is a gem and demonstrates how food should be made in an environment where it is eaten and enjoyed.
