Urban Angel
Selling: Home-Cooked Dishes
City-centre basement restaurant with a relaxed, intimate vibe, that's open from 10am-10pm Mon-Thu (11pm Sat, 6pm Sun). There are also pavement and courtyard tables for alfresco dining. The menu comprises foods that they try to ensure are a combination of fair trade, free-range, organic and locally sourced from a round 30 small suppliers. Try their eggs benedict, or there's a popular tapas menu including veggie haggis pakora with cucumber raita. Look out, too, for the daily-changing specials board.

THE FOOD IS REASONABLY PRICED FROM LIGHT BITES AT UNDER 10 POLUNDS TO MORE EXPENSIVE THINGS ON THE SPECIALS BOARD WHICH ARE NOT REALLY THAT MORE EXPENSIVE! AS ITS FAITRADE, ORGANIC AND FREE RANGE THE FOOD TASTES EVEN NICER THAN IT WOULD NORMALLY AND THE PUDDINGS ARE TO DIE FOR. ALL IN ALL ONE OF THE BEST PLACES TO EAT OUT IN AULD REEKIE!
Urban Angel is a great place to eat weather you want just a quick lunch or a sit down meal with the family. Everyone manages to find something they love on their menu, from the nachoes for kids to the risottos and meat dishes for adults. Plus you feel better knowing that everything you are eatting is local, or organic or fairtrade.
Amazingly tasty food, bought and prepared with care, served in a relaxed atmosphere with friendly staff.
Fantastic atmosphere. Beautifully prepared, fresh and exceptionally tasty food. Superb staff and a wonderul place to spend an evening.
For dining in a relaxed atmosphere you can beat Urban Angel. The qualtiy of the food is second to none whether it be a light lunch or an evening meal with friends. I very much enjoy the tapas with a glass of organic wine when shopping in town on a Saturday. The staff are friendly and welcoming - all in all a most pleasant dining experience.
Late night through the week or a Sunday Brunch, you are guaranteed first class service. Very friendly while at the same time giving you time a space to chhose from the excellent menu. A favourite for a planned outing in a relaxed atmosphere but it is always worth a visit if you're nearby as you never know what delights might be on the menu from one day to the next. Ideal pre-theatre during the Festival and cosy in the winter months. Love that hangover-free, organic beer!
The food is absolutely first class, coupled with the relaxed atmosphere and unpretentious surroundings, it has something for everyone on the menu and is suitable for most occassions. The prices are very reasonable, particularly when you consider the quality of the produce and ingredients and it gives you an added confidence in the place knowing it's fair trade and organic. Favourites are the blueberry pancakes for brunch, the juniper pork starter, the veggie haggis or smoked haddock and pea rizotto for main and the utterly devine chocolate brownie for pud.
True story: A lady was sitting at the table next to us enjoying her meal (seabass). When she had finished, the waitress asked her if she'd like anything else. She replied: "The same again please." We though she was joking but she said: "That is the nicest meal I've EVER had. So much so, I want to have it again." That's what this place is about - damn good food.
favourite place to eat in Edinburgh. The menu is diverse and is created using locally sourced, organic and fair trade produce, you know you are eating quality products and it is all made on the spot. love it.
