Farm House Kitchen

2006 Regional Finalist
Café

Selling: Home-Cooked Dishes

This beef farm on the Solway Firth has diversified into soft fruit, especially raspberries and strawberries. They also grow vegetables like asparagus and new potatoes as well as having free-range ducks, geese and hens. In addition, they have a small-holding in Portugal which supplies olive oil, oranges and lemons. Much of the above go into the homebaking featured in the tiny conservatory tearoom. Open 10am-5pm daily, except Wednesday, from Easter-September expect a choice of 7 delicious cakes, as well as quiches, and savoury croissants (warmed briefly in the Aga before serving).

The place is simply beautiful, it's so special because of the surroundings, the farm (I think principles of sustainability also apply here), the food, the homegrown vegetables and fruit (esp. the fruit is delicious), the lovely atmosphere. It's just a great place to visit, the people are nice and Nova Gourlay is a warm, friendly and hospitable person and excellent cook. It's a bit like coming home. She is my real local hero! Corrado G. What a find!! Great food, great atmosphere, great location to sit a watch the world go by or a peacock or two. Whether you are coming from far or near it is well worth a visit.

East Barcloy is a super place. Excellent fresh food. Banoffie pie is a "must", and wonderful quiches, tartlets, toasties etc. Children love it here and enjoy the ducks, geese and hens that wander around the farm. Also there is a lovely shop that sells eggs, strawberries and raspberries when in season, and also a varied and interesting selection of pottery. Well done to the Gourlays and everyone who works there.

Delicious cakes using fresh local ingredients; (its always so difficult to choose!) friendly and efficient service, good value for money, very attractively laid out whether you sit inside or out - and the banoffie pie is legendary!

This place is fantastic, the staff are so friendly and helpful and welcoming. The home grown produce is excellent, and range of pottery from Portugal provides a wonderful place to shop for that unusual gift for wedding etc. Well done Nova !

Excellent place - great food, great people, great location. Great for the kids with the playground and the maze and what a lovely spot to sit and have a nice homecooked cake and a cup of tea. For an excellent day out go to the beach at Sandyhills then on to here for afternoon tea.

The best home cooking I've ever tasted (even better than Mums). I stock pile the olive oil as it's so good and the marmalade, jams and pickles are worthy presents for all.

I was visiting Scotland from the U.S. and we just happened upon this this wonderful farm with gift shop and tea room. The food display was exceptional with so many tempting choices. I settled on the raspberry cheesecake with the largest raspberries I have ever seen adorning the top. The superb cheescake, the friendlness of the host and hostess, and the beautiful setting make this a must stop.

Fantastic food which is reasonably priced. Kids loved all the animals and the maze. Although one of mine still thinks that the peacocks are cats crying "help"

This gem of a place is hidden amidst wonderful rolling hills which provide a spectacular view to customers at any time of year. The range of homemade fare on offer is mouthwatering to say the least. I've tried just about everything Nova makes and can honestly say it's all delicious. The expansion of outdoor seating has made this place a real winner in Summer. If you're in the area and you love great food, you'd be a fool not to drop in!
