Original Smokies from Arbroath

2006 Regional Winner
Fishmonger

Selling: Fish & Shellfish

If it's a Arbroath smokie, it has to be a haddock. They were first produced in in the 19th century at Auchmithie, a small fishing village a few miles north of Arbroath. The company is run by Iain Spink a fifth generation producer who uses the same methods as fishwives made Arbroath smokies in the late 1800s. His golden-hued fish is juicy with a meaty texture, and sold at local farmers' markets and regional fairs. Check the website for more details.

Simply brilliant fast food, fresh tasty and good for you. Beats any burger van for taste, quality, the theatre of the actual cooking process and value for money. Keeps the principles true to tradition and shuns the fast buck by refusing to do mail order etc. Only serves fresh on the day. Deserves NO.1 SPOT!

My kids ( 4 and 6) loved the smokies, to see them cooking in the barrel and eating them hot is the best fast food they have ever had! Thank you for keeping it wondefully simple and letting the flavour sing through. you are our hero, as without you an amazing delicassy would not be available to the local community.

Excellent product. Often one of the main reasons we visit farmers markets in Fife. Iain is always friendly, helpful and knowledgeable.

First stop for my son every month when we go to the farmers market. Iain goes out of his way to help too. Last Christmas he delivered smoked salmon at very short notice!!

They don't come any fresher than this - straight off the barrel. The only way to eat Arboath Smokies!

The world's finest natuaral food cooked natuarally. Try adding flaked smokie to your scrambled eggs and you will never use smoked salmon again.

I get these from my local farmers' market - smokies are delicious, as is the smoked trout they offer.

A truly unique experience, being able to savour an Arbroath Smokie straight from the barrel and at its best!
