Crombie's is the best independent butcher in Edinburgh. Renowned for their sausage selction and we always pay a visit when we're having a BBQ, Old reekie is our favourite. They also make a fab steak pie.

The staff are extremely knowledgeable and friendly - I recently went in with a specific recipe in mind that required expensive beef fillet and they recommended a suitable alternative that was at a more reasonable price - the end result was great. And their sausages are fantastic!

Crombie's is an old family firm of butchers who have the most wonderful products - some coming from old recipes and some from product innovation. Their range of sausages surpasses anything else I've ever seen. They also have a range of deli items and serve the business community well at lunch time with products like stovies and home made soup. The staff are welcoming, the owners great characters and the shop is a delight to visit.

Their huge range of sausages are the epitome of fast food: they have done all the preparation and seasoning, using absolutely top quality ingredients and all you have to do is put them in the pan! The quality of meat used is impressive. Anyone else's sausages might say they have a similar percentage meat content, but there is no comparison.

Shops like Crombies are a national treasure! All their food is top-class, properly sourced, beautifully presented and always tastes wonderful. Try the caramelised onion sausages or, indeed, their vegetarian haggis which is just as good as their fantastic meat one. Beef wellingtons are scrumptious, as are their steaks and chicken. Simon is a real star at the counter and will tell you just how to cook your meat. Trust in Crombies.

As well as great quality meat and sausages they do hot and cold take away food at lunch time. try their 'Slab Pie' if you feel the need of comfort food. Generous portion of good quality beef and potatoes in short-crust pastry should set you up for an afternoon nap.

The sausages are just wonderful! So many flavours and varieties - it's always difficult to choose. A very handy place to live round the corner from when you feel like a fry-up of a weekend!

Fantastic produce and excellent friendly service. Life wouldn't be the same without Crombies meats! We don't buy meat from anywhere else in Edinburgh. The shop is well organised and very clean, tidy and welcoming.

We moved to Edinburgh almost 30 years ago and have found Crombies to be the best butchers around. Our daughter moved to Altrincham, nr. Manchester 5 years ago and it would be more than our lives were worth not to take her Crombies haggis; steak pie and, of course, lorne sausages on our visits down south. Keep up the good work guys.

Crombies is my local butcher and it is a peasure to shop there. All the staff (hi Simon) are helpful and friendly from the hot meals counter to the till. The meat is fantastic and the sausages and burgers make for a wonderful BBQ.

The range of sausages is unsurpassed in any shop I have visited. Lucifer's matchsticks are great for Bbq's. Very friendly staff, especially Simon who always has a smile and who can give lots of culinary tips as well.

Not only the best sausages in town, but also the best service. What more could anyone ask for?

I am a haggis lover and usually make a point of taking home some from Crombies, whenever I visit Edinburgh. I have tried haggis from MacSweens and Findlays which are both good, but Crombies is my favourite. The only downside is that the queues can be quite long, but I suppose that is a good thing! The steak pies and meats are also superb.

I've shopped at Crombies since I moved to Edinburgh nearly 20 years ago. The staff have never been anything other than welcoming and knowledgeable. The quality and range of produce is unsurpassed. They deserve the award for their sausages alone!

Living on its reputation - I wonder how many reviewers have tried Findlays in Portobello. I like Crombies, I think it's a good standard of butchers, but I think Findlays has the edge.

Really friendly staff, top quality food, very reasonable prices, the steaks and the caramelised onion sausages are out of this world. Lovely festive place to shop at christmas, the turkeys are the best we've ever tasted.

Everything that they supply is so good and they go out of their way to produce new items all the time.

Absolutely fabulous butcher. We particularly like their amazing sausages. Just check you have all the bags from your order that you have made in advance! A few years back they forgot to give a friend a bag of 16 haggis for his Burns night supper in Lanarkshire. Everyone ended up having haggis suppers from the local chippie! They were hugely apologetic and he dined the next week on their complimentary aberdeen angus steak.

Originally being from the Midwest, USA, I really appreciate quality meat and will travel far and wide to source it. Crombie's is my Valhalla. The quality of their meat and sausages are the very best I have found in my 9 years in Scotland, and frquently make the trip from Falkirk into Edinburgh just to go to Crombie's.

Everything is of such high quality, it makes choosing difficult. The sausages are fantastic and so many to choose from. Finally the staff are friendly and welcoming

I often consider myself one of the luckiest foodies on the planet, as I live opposite this fine establishment. Amazing quality products, especially the sausages right on my doorstep. The only dilema I have is at Christmas, when I have to decide whether to pick up my turkey, ham, sausages and other delicacies for the festive season when there is no queue, or to wait until the crowds build up to experience their amazing family customer service of hot drinks and mince pies while I wait!

Hemsk Hemsk Posted 25 Jul 2006 6:55 PM

The sausages are outstanding. If you ever want to wow your friends at a BBQ, this is the place to go. A huge variety of all different flavours! And the steak pie is pretty good too - and come in three different sizes.

If you ever go to one butchers for the rest of your life, it has to be Crombies. The stuffed Chicken Breasts are out of this world and the steak pie is the finest I've ever had the pleasure of eating

steviestarship steviestarship Posted 21 Jul 2006 2:19 PM

Linda Dick raises huge free range birds that are sold at various outlets. Having tasted her birds, I don't believe any other chicken is worth buying.

Friendly service, great selection and the best suasages in Scotland.

Everything about Crombie's is special. From the fantastic poultry, the steaks, bacon, pork, the list is endless. There are always about 20 different varieties of home-made sausages available - my particular favourites are the Auld Reekie and the New Yorker. But anyone visiting must treat themselves to a Crombie's Steak Pie - they're the stuff of legend. How they manage to get that much steak in there under the fantastic pastry for the price, I'll never know. All my friends and fsmily now shop there too following my prompting. Can't recommend this place highly enough.
