Due South

Restaurant

Selling: Home-Cooked Dishes

An award-winning restaurant located right on the seafront in the arches once used by fishermen. The kitchen relies almost exclusively on seasonal produce from local farmers, growers and suppliers, with flavour the key rather than looks and a long shelf life. Lunch could be Ditchling lamb kebabs with raita, while for dinner start perhaps with pan-fried scallops, followed by Sussex sirloin with air-dried tomato, Portobello mushrooms and hand-cut chips.

Great policy of using only local seasonal produce, with some nice wines made on the Downs.

Amazing local, organic food, views of the sea that are great even in this lousy summer, friendly, knowledgeable staff and an interesting wine list. This is a case of believe the hype!!

The food is amazing the staff - especially the head chef ;) are stunning, as is the setting. Whenever I visit Brighton I make sure I book a table.

As a 'younger' diner, the beauty of Due South is not just in the excellent and ethically sourced food, it's the efficient but relaxed attitude of the staff. It's refreshing to go to a restaurant with such high standards but a lack of pretension; how fantastic to sit back and enjoy the experience, (and gorgeous view) without being fussed over or rushed. And the chocolate brownie ice-cream is awesome! Thankyou.

I really love this place! It's definitely my favourite restaurant. Such a warm bright & honest atmosphere to the place & truly incredible flavours with each dish. I've been going here for the past three years & they are real food heroes, having used entirely local food from day one. Ethics seem to be at the forefront of their business. Event the wine list featues wines from countires within europe to cut down on foodmiles. They really set the scene in brighton. Hats off to them.

The quality and freshness of the food is second to none, the fact that it is almost all locally sourced still amazes me after at least 20 visits. The location is fun and perfectly entertaining on a summer's evening. The wine list is fresh and balanced and I always get great oysters with original dressings, the mango and strawberry now my all-time favourite. I've scored them 4 for service because of the relaxed attitude of the staff. I love it, but it's not right for everyone. I'm never rushed and to me it's perfect.

What a fantastic restaurant, I took my fiancé there the day I proposed to her and they gave us the best table upstairs looking out over the seafront. They also gave us a glass of champagne each. The food was superb and the waiters were very friendly and attentive, I would definitely go back there.

What a pleasure to go to a restaurant where the staff welcome you with a warm and friendly smile and maintain it throughout the evening even though they were fully booked and it was hot. The food was excellent, served hot, beautiful flavours and presenation and good sized portions. We will definitely be returning.

Rarely does one come across such superb service in a restaurant. OK, it is more of the relaxed kind, but these are true professionals to their fingertips. The fish is second to none as is the view, one of the very few places in Britain to achieve this. The sister restaurant, Riddle and Finn, is a must too, the seafood on view in the Lanes tempting you into the small but perfectly formed marble-topped, candelabrad relaxing restaurant. A must for lovers of good seafood.

A mouthwatering culinary experience of local produce. Can't recommend it more.

We visited Due South for our wedding anniversary and thought it was excellent all round. Using local and seasonal food is important to us so that was a brownie point from the beginning! The service we found to be very friendly and relaxed(in contrast to the previous reviewer). Would definitely go back. One of the only (the only?) decent restaurants on the seafront.

I have been to this establishment twice, and on both occassions the food was reasonable and of good quality but not all what I had hoped based on all the praise I have heard about the establishment, the service on both occassions was terrible, slow and unfriendly and for that reason alone I am afraid I will not be visiting again. A beautiful location and restaurant with good food just very poor service.

This really is one of the best places I've ever eaten. All the food is sourced as locally as possible, and most of it is organic. The dishes are simple and fresh, the views of the sea are beautiful, and the staff are lovely. Lots of places are now becoming more aware of the importance of putting local food on the menu, but Due South have been committed to this since they very first opened. I love it.
