Country Cheeses started in 1991 with a table in Tavistock's Pannier market, six local cheeses and lots of customers keen to try real British cheese at its best. My boyfriend and I are cheese lovers. The Country Cheeses has a vast selection. We visit the shop regularly and everytime we experience different cheeses. The ladies at the counter are lovely, very helpful and smiley, which makes a huge difference I think.

I have never been to any shop where all of the staff are so friendly, helpful and knowlegable about their product. All customers are treated with courtesy and even the most finicky person would be able to find a cheese they liked here. If you're not sure what you like you can taste the cheeses before you buy. Fantastic shop.

i have travelled all around the world and enjoyed eating food made with sheer artistry - on my return to this country, with sadness i have to admit, as we are not known for our culinary delights i embarked on a trip to see some of the sights of my homeland - i ended up on the beautiful dartmoor, sheer breathtaking beauty.driving off the moor i found a small cheese shop in the town of tavistock. looking through the window i saw some pretty smiling girls behind cool counters crammed with cheese, even from outside i could hear laughter. i had to investigate thinking i had stumbled upon a source of fine cheese, and by the number of them and the beautiful appearance they were obviously continental. how wrong i was i was given a taste bud tour through cheeses of the westcountry by a young lady so knowledgeable in these cheeses i felt a complete fool! all my preconceptions about home produced food were swept away this was an adventure. the abundance of flavours and textures was only surpassed by the passion and enthusiasm of this person, listening to the cheese chat from the other staff whilst dealing with their customers, intermingled with bursts of happy laughter i almost thought my pint of jail ale had been spiked i had no idea such places existed. truly a cheese heaven on earth. thank you country cheeses and the lovely staff, you have opened my eyes and i shall shout your praises high and low. all the very best to you all.

Friendliness, approachability and top class produce make any visit to this shop an experience to remember and savour. If you only visit an area very infrequently, you want to feel confident that the product you are buying is the best there is - and this most definitely is.

Every time I enter either of Country Cheese's shops I am almost overwhelmed not only by the wonderful cheesy aromas but also the bright smiles and attitudes of all of the staff there. From the entertaining description cards to the knowledgable and enthusiastic people, Country Cheeses is the ONLY cheese shop any discerning eater of cheesy comestibles will ever want or need.

Country Cheeses has a great range of cheeses, friendly, knowledgeable and enthusiastic staff. A long-distant supporter of their Topsham shop make a point of recycling their bags in order to spread the word!

I was a complete novice about cheese and only recognised it in vacuum packed plastic bags. They have nurtured my palate without making me feel totally ignorant

An absolute gem - wonderful cheese and, almost more importantly, a warm, helpul and un-intimidating atmosphere that turns its customers into evangelical real-cheese fans. Simply a revelation!

The most excellent range of local fresh cheeses. Opportunities to try the cheeses before you buy. Knowledgeable seller, giving a good description of the cheese and its origins. Wish I had somewhere as good more local to me!

Oh..where do I start?? The knowledge, the humour and intelligence of the staff. A total experience unlikely to be repeated when buying such quality products. A joy and delight to visit. London would be proud.

As a celebrity I like to be served as if I were a normal member of the public. This they do, as if they don't know who I am. But then, they treat everybody as if they were special. Mmmm I love westcountry cheeses.

great service, cheese that is matured on until its optimum condition and so much cheaper than many delicatessans

We mature and love our cheeses, it is this passion which makes the flavours so special. We have up to 130 cheeses depending on season. We have also developed our own recipe cheeses and have these made by the finest local cheesemakers. We also organise the very special artisan cheese fair in Tavistock at the end of August.

Real pioneers of real cheese. When they started, the best most local outlets offered was mild cheddar and.....more mild cheddar. In 15 or so years Country Cheeses has tirelessly promoted local unique local producers and unique local produce.
