Rowswells Fruit & Veg
Selling: Fruit & Veg
John Rowswell has been growing vegetables since he was just five years old. He learnt from his father, who still helps him run his market garden, which supplies some of the South West's top restaurants and hotels, as well as the public. Everything is grown and produced using a special blend of natural fertilisers, which means no insecticides or herbicides. John grows around 50 different types of vegetable, including nine varieties of tomato.

I wonder if the chef who praised the Asparagus is aware it comes from Peru (Yeah really!) and is delivered - like most of these 'home grown' fruit and vegetables by (not so local) wholesalers. Even the highly talked-up shallots are largely French (repackaged for 'authenticity'). It's exactly this kind of nonsense that gives local producers, and farmers in general, a bad name. What a CON. Disappointing to see the gullible are still having the wool pulled over their eyes. You're better off going to the Co-op.
John's a great guy - honest and down to earth. His fruit and veg is second to none and has great quality and superb flavour! Long may it continue.
I recently sold my restaurant near Chard, and found John, his father Edward and all who work for Rowswells ran a superb business. Firstly they grow a great deal of what they sell themselves, and the flavour you get from growing naturally - carrots, rocket, pink fir apples, elephant garlic, crown prince squash, banana shallots etc -enabled me as a chef to produce dishes with great flavour and character. Carrots that taste like carrots are a wonderful thing! Not only is there produce good, but they went out of their way to deliver at short notice six or even seven days per week if necessary, which isn't always easy when the weather ties them to the land for so many hours per day. John is a real food hero, I hope his passion for something as apparently simple as vegetables helps him to win this competition.
It's such a fascinating place - great produce too. My Mum loves it!
Iwork for a fruit and veg wholesales in yeovil.....and we deliver to john every week....but we do bring our boxes back......not all he sales he produces himself...go on john tell the truth!!!!

john is ann excellent ambassador for good local produce , with a genuine pride in his work , he enjoys growing food a much as i like cooking it , posted by matt mason head chef jack in the green .
Its good produce at a reasonable price, also I like the setup of their home grown vegetables.
John is a man with passion. He is an innovative entrepreneur and thoroughly deserves to win. The range and quality of his produce rank with the best in the country.
Superbly a friendly farm shop. Fantastic service ranging from in farm shop shopping to delivering to your front door. Many types of facinating exotic veg!!!
John and his team work very hard to grow the very best produce possible and then get it - in our case to our pub restaurants, in the same day. Growing for taste and flavour rather than look can onlt be the way forward for produce and John does his best to spearhead this on in the south west.
John has a great deal of interest in what he does money is secondary to him .He has a love for what he does .He works very long hours most of money goes to pay his workers .At the moment he is doing this for a living and for the luv of growing fine veg,i am his brother and a self employed gardener helping with the companion planting.
from what i can see he buys from large faceless wholesalers and then swaps the box over...everything is not always as it seems...poor choice
John is a man with a massive passion for what he does, his fruit and veg is simply the best of the best. I would definatly recomend a visit to Johns farm and sample some of his amazing delights !!!!
Amazing. Excellent produce, traditionally grown by a man with real passion for what he does. Very friendly service and takes the time to explain how to get the best when cooking his produce.
