Pheasant's Hill Farm Shop

2007 Regional Finalist
Farm shop

Selling: Meats, Poultry, Fruit & Veg

Established for 10 years, Pheasant’s Hill Farm is the only butchers shop in Ireland selling exclusively rare breed free range meat and poultry. They produce all of their own pork, bacon and hams, and champion the cause of rare breed meats in both Northern Ireland and Ireland, introducing many people to the breeds. This year, Pheasant’s Hill Farm diversified and has established an outside catering business ‘Pheasant’s Hill Farm Kitchen’ which aims to provide ‘good food – fast’. They provide an alternative to the usually low quality fast food available at events, and offer customers local, free range, rare breed and grilled meats, accompanied by locally grown salads. All food sold at catering events is sourced in Northern Ireland, and all is produced by local artisan food producers - from the ice cream to the organic rolls and speciality teas. Great meat and enthusiasm. I travel from Drogheda as often as I can, taking an electric fridge box, 130 kms each way, to chat with Alan and buy the very best meat available.

I absolutely love this place. Alan breeds the pigs himself on his farm. He butchers, hangs and cures all the meat. They covered every stage of the process, from farm to fork. The meat tastes incredible. The staff are so knowledgable and always there to answer any questions. These guys really are food heros. They are not doing it for money, it is a little butchers dealing with small quantities of meat, they are just doing it for their passion in food. This is the best pork in Ireland. A foodies dream!

The service is first class in this busy farm shop. The staff always greets you with a winning smile and nothing is too much bother for them and they offer the best local produce. Just fantastic!

Alan, the owner and farmer, is passionate about his pigs and his produce. I live in Newtownards, about 7 miles from Comber but I am more than willing to go the extra mile to get his good quality rare breed pork and beef

Pheasants Hill meat is second to none. And I think in this age of mass production and supermarkets putting profit above all else, its good to see farmers who still believe in putting flavour first, sticking to traditional methods, and rearing their animals outdoors, where they lead happy lives. For all these reasons Pheasants Hill is a Food Hero so vote for them now!

I come from the country side in France. I am quite pride to now what traditional and organic food means. I found at Pheasant's hill Farm Shop the best and tasty products in Northtern Ireland, I should not tell it but when I come to Comber, I take back with me in France sausages and becon to cook good breakfasts.

The staff are really informative and helpful. The produce on offer is superb and harks back to the days before supermarket domination when meat actually had taste.

The meat alone would win these guys any award going, let alone all the other produce, knowledge, service and general friendlyness. Easily worth my 40 odd mile detour to shop here. Simply stunning.
