This little cafe and delicatessen is an oasis of excellence in this part of South Down. The staff are always friendly, the coffee (including soya) is always fresh and the homemade friands are to die for! Thanks Kath for an amazing sweet potato and asparagus quiche to celebrate my son's wedding! Geraldine Hull

Picnic is a gem in the wonderful village of Killyleagh. The food is always freshly prepared, the menu is a fascinating fusion of local and aussie - reflecting the homelands of the owners, John and Kath! The service is second to none - well trained and happy staff. They're doing something right! They also stock a great range of local and Irish produce. If you are looking for a supper to take home or some fabulous cheese for a dinner party - go to Picnic!

I experienced my first visit to picnic on Sunday after a recommendation from a friend and now I see why she holds this little village deli in such high regard-The food was superb but I was even more impressed with the service-a vital part of any good restaurant/cafe. The waitress was gracious and obliging and promptly noticed I may require a high chair for the baby, was more than happy to spend time explaining menus and recommending dishes, ensuring my time at picnic was most agreeable and relaxing. Picnic is a very child friendly environment and the staff all made me very welcome from the moment they greeted us when we walked through the door. I am much looking forward to my next visit.

There are so many reason's to recommend this wonderful place. The fantastic homemade food(Kath's cakes get my vote every time!) the welcoming friendly service, delicious coffee, fabulous view of the castle, the perfect place to meet up with friends any time of the day and if like me, cooking is the bane of your life, then grab a pot of something delectable from John's kitchen to take home and you'll have a meal to remember with no effort!
