I've been buying Fencebay products from our local farmers' market for a couple of years now. I used to think that foods like sea bass and scallops were luxuries to be enjoyed only at expensive restaurants, but thanks to Fencebay I've been able to enjoy healthy, delicious food at reasonable prices at home. The fish is of such good quality that it doesn't take much to turn it into an outstanding meal, there is a great range of choice, and the staff are always friendly and helpful.

The seafood, most of which is caught locally, much by Bernard in his boat, is the freshest I have ever tasted! Where else in Scotland can you obtain lobsters crabs & langoustine kept alive in seawater tanks on site, and oysters brought in each day from the sea less that 1/2 mile away? Their smoked salmon, both hot- and cold-smoked is the moistest, tastest, most succulent imaginable!! The farm shop sells produce from other local suppliers and the monthly farmers' market brings in suppliers from all over Ayrshire.

Home from home feeling, being treated like their only customer although they are very busy you still feel very special and the food is out of this world. I will be back.

This thriving business is a little oasis on the west coast of Scotland. It has developed from a small fish farm to a smokery and seafood shop, a kitchenware shop, and successful restaurant which has built up a reputation for fresh homecooked meals, often using fish and shellfish caught by Bernard himself. It's always a treat to visit whenever we are in the area. Bed & breakfast can sometimes even be provided. The Thains have provided a venue for a farmers' market, and this, like everything else they do, is flourishing. Their hard work and enthusiasm generates a fun atmosphere that infects both their loyal staff and customers.

Way back, when we first met Bernard starting his fish farm, he always took time to show his produce and give advice. Ever since, we have been to shop buying all sorts of seafood and fish, especially when we want something special. We know we will never be disappointed. His name means quality and freshness.

The shop is fabulous. The fish and seafood are always top quality, the staff are knowledgeable and cn always make suggestions for how to cook new things and are genuinely interested in feedback. I love their mussels, langoustines and smoked salmon. The smoked duck breay is lovely too. They also sell veg from local small growers and host a farmers market once a month. They give the stall fees to the local RNLI rather than make extra profit. I hate shopping but love visiting Fencebay.
