Market Kitchens Local Food Heroes 2009

Local Food Heroes 2009 is back for its fourth consecutive year, and Good Food channel's Market Kitchen, is championing all that's great about regional food businesses.

We're asking food lovers across the nation to nominate and vote for those businesses that help put great food on our plates. From farm shops to food producers, online businesses, restaurants and more – if you know of, or work in, an outstanding food business - add it to the directory now. Take a look at our criteria for more details.

Voting closes at 23.00 on 7 August, 2009.

Once voting ends...
After voting ends, those 10 businesses from each region with the most votes will be assessed by an expert selection panel. The panel will shortlist three businesses from each region based on how closely they feel the candidates meet the criteria.

What happens next?
Market Kitchen’s very own Matt Tebbutt and Matthew Fort will, between them, visit the three shortlisted businesses in each of the 10 regions and present a feature on Market Kitchen later this year.

A panel of expert judges will then assess the strengths of each business and choose one winner from the 10 regions.

The winner
All 10 regional winners will be invited to appear on Market Kitchen. The overall national winner - the business that most closely meets the criteria will be announced on the show and will receive a fabulous trophy and £5,000 to celebrate their achievement.

How do I nominate?
Your favourite place may already be listed in our directory – all you need to do is vote for it – you can also write a short review and upload photos.

We love hearing about new businesses – if your favourite isn't listed in the directory, now’s your chance to enter its details and nominate it.

To nominate or vote, you do need to be over 18, a UK resident and registration is required.

Once a nomination has been submitted, we will check details and normally activate the nomination within 1-3 working days in the Market Kitchen Local Food Hero Directory.

We, at Good Food channel, will write to every participating business, including a window sticker promoting the campaign. The more votes your favourite business gets, the better its chance of being considered by the selection panel.

If you are over 18, and a UK resident, we’re asking you to recognise your favourite business by nominating and voting for it here. Remember to register on the website beforehand.
