Please read the following criteria for the Market Kitchen: Bake A Cake competition
We’re looking for original cake recipes – your own creation or a family favourite passed down the generations. Because of copyright laws we can’t accept any recipes that are not owned by you.
Give us cake!
From classic sponges to dainty cupcakes, fruity celebration cakes, and cream-laden gateau – we’re looking for those recipes that are important to you. For this competition, our definition of cake is a broad one – baked, sweet, and including sponge in some form, with or without icing and toppings.
Traybakes, although delicious aren’t what we’re looking for on this occasion – so holdback on sending in recipes for flapjacks, millionaire’s shortbread, and goodies of this ilk. Same goes for Danish pastries, cookies and confectionery.
Your recipe
An accurate, original recipe, with easy to follow method will ensure your recipe is considered by our judging panel.
Please test your cake recipe before submitting an entry to our competition. If you have a top tip in ensuring cake baking success remember to include it in the method.
We’re looking for classic recipes as well as creativity and innovation. Perhaps you’ve added a twist to a favourite sponge, or developed an unusual recipe with interesting flavours – floral notes, sweet cakes made with vegetables, and indulgent icings.
We’d appreciate if ingredients are listed in metric measurements, but if you still work with imperial, your recipe will still be considered in the competition. Consult our conversion chart for help with measurements.
Judging panel
Our independent panel includes Eric Lanlard, cakemaker to the stars, Janice Gabriel, executive producer of Market Kitchen and Sarah Cook, food writer at BBC Good Food Magazine, all of whom are experts in their field.
