Gordon Ramsay - Fast Food
Helpful Tools
In between saving ailing restaurants, expanding his global image, hosting a TV series and running marathons it's a wonder that Gordon Ramsay has the energy to write another cookery book.
No shortcuts, pre-prepared packet food or sneaky cheating, Ramsay makes his quick-fire dishes from scratch with the freshest ingredients available. Without smoke and mirrors you'll be able to make No-Bake Berry Cheesecake in the time it takes to watch Countdown, or whip up a tapas spread for friends in fifteen minutes. From light and healthy soups to indulgent Fast Fish and Chips, the trick is maximum flavour, minimum fuss. The chapters are divided into either everyday or entertaining menus. Salads, Mexican flavours, antipasti, pastas, meat fall into the first category. With speedy Sunday lunch, Italian, Thai and Moroccan feasts sit in the second. It's an impressive feat that Ramsay can create a three-course meal in under 45 minutes, and these sections are the most enlightening in terms of timings and preparation for the uninitiated in the world of entertaining.
Considering his well documented disdain for non-meat eaters it's surprising that he includes a menu for vegetarians, including a tasty sounding Gratin of Roasted Peppers, Basil and Feta. There's even a section called Cheap and Cheerful with a family-friendly Sticky Lemon Chicken dish, and Caramelised Bananas for afters - proving you don't need a budget for Claridges to eat a Ramsay meal. It's pretty much his most accessible book to date, in terms of ingredients, cooking techniques and the faced paced lifestyle most of us lead. So if you're in a hurry, buy this book, and you'll be rustling up great food quicker than a Gordon Ramsay hot temper.
