Romantic Cakes by Peggy Porschen
Helpful Tools
Cake designer Peggy Porschen is half chef, half artist, and clearly all dreamy idealist. In this book she charts her stunning cake creations where looks are everything and the end results so picturesque it would be a travesty to eat them (well almost).
On to the wedding and nothing could rival a tiered, white cake fluttering with iced butterflies, except perhaps the 3-foot square sponge strewn with a bed of over a thousand glittering sugar roses. There are miniature cakes decked out like spring posies for bridesmaids' favours and forget-me-not fancies for the honeymooning couple. Peggy hasn't even been tempted to put a just-been-dumped-chocolate-cake or a divorce cookie at the end; this girl is evidently as sugary sweet and romantic as her cakes.
However divine and inspiring the pictures in this book are, these recipes are not for the faint-hearted. Admittedly it would take a serious sugar crafter to make some of the delectable delights, but with Peggy's step-by-step instructions and pictures, kitchen clutzes can try their hand at cake decorating too. From the cutesy and retro to the stylish and elegant, this book is sure to have a cake to tempt you.
