Wouldn't tapas type dishes be the perfect solution? You could serve patatas bravas, for example, with the bravas sauce as a separate dish, and perhaps a potato and ham tortilla, as well as some Spanish cheese and cured meats, and then branch out with some more exciting garlic and chili based dishes for the more adventurous!
I love all of these recipes, and do not hesitate to cook them for my wife and grown up children. However, when I cook for friends on every third Friday, two of them tend to be frightened away by anything even remotely exciting. One won't eat garlic; one won't eat spice of any kind, and hates humous and couscous. Bland boring meals for bland, boring people. The problem is, one can't particularly cook tasteless meals just for two, just in case they feel uncomfortable. I love cooking but no longer enjoy our Friday gatherings
