Popcorn machine
Making a healthy snack can be quick, easy and fun with a popcorn machine.
Costing about £20, they're a good investment for families during holiday time, or when children's friends come to visit. If you're dieting, freshly made plain popcorn is a welcome low-cal treat.
Popcorn machines work by building up hot air which makes the grains of corn explode into a puffy ball. The traditional method of heating a little oil in a large lidded pot is by no means unhealthy, but an air-popper eliminates added fat completely. It also prevents scorching and sticking.
Choose a model with a large bucket to hold the popped corn, and a generous domed cover to stop it spraying all over the kitchen.
Though delicious on its own, popcorn becomes even more irresistible slathered with melted butter and sprinkled with sea salt flakes. Or try adding grated cheese and freshly chopped herbs. If you have a sweet-tooth, a drizzle of honey or maple syrup should hit the spot.
