John Torode
Chef, food writer and TV presenter; is there any hat John Torode cannot wear?
Torode started his career as a chef. Having moved from Australia in the early nineties, he began his illustrious string of UK careers with the Conran Group. Passion and talent saw him rise quickly through the ranks: in less than five years, he was promoted to the position of head chef. Today, he runs the kitchens of the acclaimed Smiths of Smithfield.
Torode's Australian background has played a large part in his career. He has been credited as one of the main players to bring quality Australian cuisine to the UK. His no-fuss fusion cooking produces sensible yet flavourful dishes. Apart from introducing this exciting blend of multicultural cuisine, he is well-known for being an enthusiast of organic food and the farming process.
On the food writing front, Torode's casual, informative style transfers easily onto readers. That explains why he is already author of a set of successful cookbooks including John Torode's Chicken And Other Birds and John Torode's Beef. He's also the voice of his own columns in the Daily Mail and Olive Magazine, and is regularly approached to be a guest reviewer.
His highest-profile role however, has to be that of a TV presenter.
Torode has been on numerous programmes: from four years of being a resident chef on ITV with Richard and Judy to his most recent hosting and judging duties on Celebrity Masterchef. He is clearly no stranger to viewers of the small screen
