Marcus Wareing

Gordon Ramsay protégé Marcus Wareing is one of Britain's most acclaimed young chefs.

Born in Lancashire, Marcus Wareing trained at Southport College and began his whirlwind career at The Savoy, soon followed by a move to Le Gavroche to work alongside Albert Roux. In 1993 he began working with Gordon Ramsay as sous chef at Aubergine and subsequently moved to Paris to the two-Michelin starred Guy Savoy where he was named Restaurant Association’s Young Chef of the Year.

In 1996 Marcus returned to London to open L’Oranger under head chef Gordon Ramsay and went on to open Pétrus in The Berkeley Hotel in London's Knightsbridge which has since won two stars. Following a bitter split with Ramsay the restaurant was renamed Marcus Wareing at The Berkeley. In 2003 with chef Josh Ernett he restored the Savoy Grill back to its former glory and won, yet another, Michelin star.

The culinary accolades, like the Michelin stars, have flowed and include Tatler’s Restaurateur of the Year 2004 and the honour of cooking the dessert course at the Queen's 80th birthday celebrations.
