Silvana Franco

With her charming personality and beaming smile, Silvana has fast become one of Market Kitchen's most popular chefs.

Silvana Franco is a food writer who specialises in friendly and approachable family cooking. Born and raised in Derby to a large Italian family, Silvana grew up in the kitchen, where she developed a love of cooking and experimenting with recipes from an early age. She prides herself on being a cook, not a chef and with twenty years in the industry, she truly knows what real people like to cook and love to eat.

Silvana trained at BBC Magazines before spending a year as the Food Editor of M&S Magazine. A behind-the-scenes move into TV found Silvana becoming a food stylist and writer for programmes such as Can't Cook Won't Cook and Ainsley's Gourmet Express where she made her on-screen debut as Ainsley’s side-kick. Her natural, engaging style was clear to see on The Best, the prime-time BBC2 series she co-starred in with Paul Merritt and Ben O’Donaghue and the two 15-part series she has made for GMTV. She has also appeared on Saturday Kitchen, This Morning, Food Uncut, Great Food Live and Daily Cooks and continues to appear on Market Kitchen and GMTV.

With her best friends – and fellow food writers and stylists – Angela Boggiano and Jenny White, Silvana founded Fork, a photography studio and writing base where all their recipes are created. Silvana currently writes and styles for all the major supermarkets as well as the country’s top food titles including Delicious and BBC Good Food. Over the last few years Silvana has developed a no-nonsense approach to feeding children based on her firm belief that even the youngest member of the household should be sat at the table, enjoying the same home-cooked food as the rest of the family.

Silvana lives in London with her husband Robert, a music journalist, their 6-year-old son (who loves spaghetti with clams; pie, mash & liquor and his grandmother’s lasagne) and a baby daughter who is currently discovering the delights of sweet potato, runner beans and mashed mango.
