first motor car in Antarctica
Published February 2007 Bernard Day, crewmember of the Shackleton expedition of 1908, sits astride the first motor car in Antarctica. Shackleton was given the car, specially built for the expedition, by the Arrol-Johnston company of Scotland. The four cylinder, 15 horsepower car hadn't been tested in extreme cold and its ordinary wheels did not fare well in snow.
