London to Paris in 1919
British Airways launched the world's first daily scheduled international air service between London and Paris back in 1919. The flight took 2 hours and 30 minutes and cost £21 per passenger.

The world's favourite airline
British Airways is the world's biggest carrier of passengers on international air routes. In 2002, some 30 million people chose to fly overseas with BA - that's one in every 15 international travelers.

The busiest airline
The world's biggest passenger carrier is American Airlines. The company operates a fleet of over 1,100 aircraft flying to 250 destinations in 41 countries but most of its traffic is in the USA.

Mr Air Miles
Fred Finn is the world's most travelled airline passenger. By the end of 2000 he'd flown a total distance of 11,960,000 miles including 714 supersonic crossings of the Atlantic on Concorde.

Round the world in 2 days
David Springbett flew round the world in just 44 hours and 6 minutes in 1980. His journey began and ended in Los Angeles via London, Bahrain, Singapore, Bangkok, Manila, Tokyo, and Honolulu covering 23,068 miles.

Flyski Concordski
The Russian Tupolev TU-144 was built as a competitor to the Anglo-French Concorde, and was faster at 1600mph or Mach 2.4. But a TU-144 crashed at the Paris Air Show in 1973 ending its civil aviation career.

A terrible air disaster
The worst ever air disaster took place on March 27 1977, when two Boeing 747s, operated by Pan-Am and KLM, collided on the runway at Tenerife in the Canary Islands, killing 583 people.

Hope you have a safe landing
According to FlightSafe Ltd the three safest airlines are KLM, BA and Lufthansa. The three worst airlines to fly with are Cubana, Myanmar Airways and Nigeria Airways. You have been warned!

Mile high rollers
When the Airbus A380 come into service in 2007 it will have 49% more floor space than the Boeing 747-400, carry over 550 passengers in great comfort and feature facilities such as casinos, bars, and gyms.

Pass the sick bag
